People usually think of folks like Pac, Pop Smoke, and Juice as artists who were bigger in death, but this probably applies to MJ as well.

The largest recording contract in history was MJ's and it was signed after he died. $250m

EDIT: ok this was a bad title. I am just a little surprised that he was basically near bankruptcy and then he signed the biggest record deal of his career after he died. he could have saved his finances with his comeback tours and memorabilia sales if he'd lived, but it's a little surprising that his biggest record deal was when he died

EDIT 2: ok MJ was not bigger in death. every artists's work just becomes more valuable in death, especially if they die unexpectedly, and that's why MJ's biggest record deal came after he died

MJ was the biggest artist ever

I think his popularity kinda stagnated after death and I think somewhat declined when the Neverland doc came out.

    Hell nah

I can remember back to the Dangerous era in 91/92 which was about a decade past his peak. Even at that point he was by far the biggest star in the world.

I cant imagine what the Thriller era must've been like (I was born in 85)

    No way

He was another level of fame at the time

😒 bro, i likely (as you do ) have family members who were screaming at jackson before he went solo.

do you even understand how big jackson 5 were?

they had a cartoon show on syndicated major network television - black family band cartoon show that featured their music. they probably had their own cereal. 😳

so even if michael didn’t become a solo superstar, it’s worth noting the level of worldwide acclaim this group had as a talent.

magazine cover to magazine cover - even if white america did roll their eyes, jackson 5 could not be denied their astronomical value as a group.

i’m guessing that motown made waaaaaay more than the figures indicate what they generated off j5.
