ok MJ was not bigger in death. every artists's work just becomes more valuable in death, especially if they die unexpectedly, and that's why MJ's biggest record deal came after he died. RIP to the goat
No it didn’t
In March 1991 MJ signed the biggest deal of all time (at the time) so the point is invalid
So he didn't die after a pedo case that hurt his reputation a lot? My bad. Must have imagined it.
Even if he was innocent, the damage had been done.
Completely ignoring This is It and the Jackson rampage it ensued.. for what? A false narrative everyone knows is exactly that, false?
What damage? Thriller 25 was a worldwide success, Visionary singles collection charted all over the world and TII sold out instantly. Of course it wasn’t good, but to imply it was game over is outright incorrect.

the biggest record deal of all time is worth $250 million and was signed by MJ's estate in March 2010
"The Michael Jackson estate and Sony Music have reportedly agreed on a seven-year, 10-project, $250 million pact that will be the most lucrative in music history"

Again - not the point. Your point is that MJ must be bigger in death because he had the biggest deal of all time after dying.
Which is incorrect as you can see he signed contracts like this whilst alive.
Just because the number was bigger after he died, does not mean he was bigger in death. Different time.

Moving the goalposts - are you now saying MJ is bigger in death than he was in the years preceding his death?

depends on how you are measuring "bigger"
he signed bigger deals in death than in life, so the music was more in demand. however sure in the 80's / 90's he could just stand still and people would faint so he was bigger in that sense

The music was not more in demand post 2009 as it was when he was alive.
Just look at the release of Bad, Dangerous and even History. These were huge moments in time - just because Sony signed a flashy deal after MJ died doesn’t mean suddenly he was going to do better numbers/generate more interest

there are lots of different ways to measure influence and fame. album sales and the dollar amount fo a contract, those are just one way
obviously there is the era where hundreds of thousands of people would stand outside his hotel room. but the immediate aftermath of his death was something we will probably never see again. he set commercial, billboard records that week and that year. he occupied tons of chart positions all over the world
idk if that means he was "bigger" then than he was before, but I think it's easy to forget just how big he was / is in death

You are equating him being bigger with the signing of a deal, they are two very different things. Its not semantics as you claimed earlier in this thread and I'm not sure why you think this.
Also that 1996 to 2008 stat is meaningless as he was at his peak before 1996.

yeah i already said he wasn't bigger. just a little surprised his deal was bigger, but it makes sense since there's increased interest after a death
real question is will there ever be someone bigger and is it even possible in this day and age
No
but his public perception is definitely a lot more favorable now compared to the last few years of his life
Absolutely not that man was bigger than life and death tbh. Probably only thing that will ever be bigger than Michael is God
