That's absolutely insane if its a centrally set law rather than just a custom among businesses
It’s a big reason why Toronto is huge now. Back in the 70’s, Montreal was Canada’s flagship city for business, etc. Then, their provincial gov passed Bill 101 (French is required as the primary language), Quebec (the province where Mtl is) tried to separate from Canada a couple times, etc.
U.S investors were like “CRINE f*** that” and moved all their business to Toronto, effectively TERRAFORMING it on some Dubai s***.
People from Mtl till this day harbour jealousy and angst towards Toronto, while it’s their own people’s & provinces fault for playing music that scared the chicks off.
@op
Montreal not that racist lol, go outside of the city in the rest of Quebec and you might get some weird interactions if u not white or dont speak french
Great night life, great food, public transit is aight, prostitution is legal like amsterdam, extremely cheap cost of living, etc. The city is a lil dirty here and there but it's really the best place on earth if u a young dude
S*** I live in Georgia and niggas is hella racist here, s***, I’m positive I done delt with waaaaay more racism and bs here than a mf has in Montreal

Facts lol
Aside from actual cops (who are pretty much bigoted everywhere) you won't see that much racism. The most you'll see is in the interviewing processes where niggas will throw your CV away if they think you have a black/arab name or landlords that will sometimes ghost u once they find out you're black.
Now go outside of the big cities in the rest of Quebec and that's a different story lmao, way closer to Georgia lol
i work with a company in quebec and they are annoying as fuk over the phone
given their attitude it is most likely a s***hole

The thing though is that people from Montreal are different than the rest of Quebec, most people here are bilingual and don't give a single f*** about Bill 101.
When the other parts of Quebec pushed for this bill, Montrealers felt resentment towards them because people didn't care for it here and it took away a lot of business opportunities.
In Montreal, you’ll be “relatively” fine if you just speak English. But finding work will be stupid hard if you’re not bilingual.
Toronto’s the place to be if you’re looking to make money. Sure, things are more expensive, but generally each industry has PLENTY of jobs to go around.
You should become bilingual if you're in canada though bro
The job opportunities you'll get is f***ing stupid lmaoooo
The fed will employ ppl for crazy money who are underqualified just because they're bilingual
Montreal is also the least racist "big" city in US/Canada.
Less racist than toronto? I mean i live here and never really seen it
i work with a company in quebec and they are annoying as fuk over the phone
given their attitude it is most likely a s***hole
This also
French people rude af
Montreal is racist imagine moving to that s***ty province

I am fully bilingual & have a bilingual job lol
it's like any other place. housing is affordable tho steadily increasing in recent years
disagree when people say its like europe idg that vibe at all. very much NA except you can speak french
is it one of those cities u NEED a car for? i live in the center of toronto so i never needed one tbh
Don't let anyone convince you Toronto's the better city
Lived in both for multiple years, loved Toronto 10x more.
Mtl would be better only in the case if you’ve got old money, decent house & a good job.
is it one of those cities u NEED a car for? i live in the center of toronto so i never needed one tbh
I mean you can def get by without in the immediate vicinity of downtown but yeah should be a similar exp
We wouldnt know but since you're from "Europe" its close to home culturally & architecturally
It isn’t at all don’t listen to this guy
French people from france move there and feel out of place
Québécois culture is distinct but Montreal itself is a mix of quebecois, canadian, American. It’s definitely very North American especially to someone from UK
The differences are only noticeable if you’re from like the states or english canada

It is compared to like a big american city or like toronto
But compared to europe it’s pretty accepting

Rurul quebec is wwayyyyy worse than rural Georgia
All my extended fam is in GA and i spent time there. The whole state is black af. Outside the atl area they might be ultra conservative weirdos but they definitely still are used to interacting with black people
Rural quebec is literally 99% white
I mean you can def get by without in the immediate vicinity of downtown but yeah should be a similar exp
nice, and if you dont know french are u f***ed? lots of fashion jobs there i was planning on checking out mtl for a year or two

to be fair, this policy is stupid as f*** and they should have predicted it

I came here for uni and did not speak any french, but for work it depends, service jobs you probably should know how, others not as necessary
Daily life it's no problem but it's nice to learn
