Comedy is about making jokes. You can make a joke out of something that people are outraged about and be successful because there’s usually something to work with. With music it’s just try hard and has nothing to do with the music.

Trump was doing stand-up comedy in the lead up to his presidency. He's a crowd worker. He's so funny!

If comedy is just about violating niceties or challenging taboos, this is what you get. I don't make the rules. Outrage marketing in other realms are playing on the same sensitivities to generate controversy. Lil Nas X is just trying to get cancelled by the right instead of the left.

Trump wasn’t doing comedy he was feeding white people what they wanted. That’s a dumbass comparison.
Comedy and music are not even close to the same. Shock value with music is pointless and add absolutely nothing to the music.

Watch Trump behind the mic. He made it a point to emphasis that he is not a teleprompter guy. He violates all of the "political" manners we expect. The result is comedy. You don't have to agree with him to find it funny or entertaining.

In fact, when you don't agree with him, that's where the controversy begins. It happens to Chapelle every 12 months now. Trans trans trans trans trans

Not all comedy is that, but if we're talking about the major stand up renaissance guys, the Rogan affiliates, they're all flirting with that stuff. One way or another.

"I'm not supposed to say that haha. I'm just kidding. Or am I? Oh, are your feelings hurt? I'm just asking questions. Haha look how mad the people you don't like are at me. I'm canceled"

I definitely don’t think it can carry a mediocre song like it used to

It can probably still work with a genuinely great song

whats a good example of a mediocre song that got carried to success by an outrage marketing strategy?

Again. Doing it with a purpose (like a joke) makes it’s great. Doing it just to get attention is desperate, especially if the content you’re putting out is trash

  • Imagine getting shocked by lil nas x

We're not debating if it's good or bad or whatever lol. It's just the exact same dynamic.

Lil Nas X wears devil horns or a halo, Chapelle says trans people are rapists, and Trump says Mexicans are criminals. They all are absurd to the point of comedy and get attention. Whether that attention is positive or negative, whether it makes the right or left mad, it doesn't matter. Popularity through outrage.

First, Dave never called trans people rapists. So that invalidates your whole argument using lies. 2nd it either works or it doesn’t. It works in comedy because comedy and music are not the same. Which is my original point. Idk what you’re on about

Dave Chapelle: If I pretended to be a b****, I'd go to the lady prison and rape everyone!

All people talked about before that special was if he would or wouldn't keep talking about trans people. That's outrage marketing. How'd Lil Nas X promote this single? Did we talk about the music? Nah, we talked about if he would make a gospel song or w/e to trigger people

  • hadji

lol whoever posted this im happy to have this convo on here. look at my threads on here—yes my videos are in the OP (when theyre threads about these topics). but do you notice theres good discussion in a lot of them? I don't just post them to get views, I post them to start conversations

i can feel the hater energy so strongly i cant help but respect it

  • Jan 16

I like Lil Nas but I have to say this song and everything surrounding it is boring as sin

  • Is outrage marketing is getting stale?

His point had no point. Pulling up Donald trump? And lying about fake rape jokes.
He replied to me and my point which was that comedy and music are two different things that can’t be compared when it comes to “outrage” lil nas x is doing it for attention. Comedy does it for the actual joke and with a point. Not just flat out pulling stunts
