Lies are always negative in the long run even if they helped civilize populations thousand of years ago. There could have been a better way.

People need to realize that religions were made by governing bodies with the aim to control people. The core monotheist philosophy came from a figure who never claimed to be a prophet.

Some sort of faith or spirituality can definitely be a plus in our lives and for society as a whole, however I feel like we are keeping the same old scriptures and books when we have progressed a lot morally as a society compared to a long time ago. You can always believe the older books, but the more we stray away from them morally, the more we have to question how we are going to keep that same faith. We don't want to not include people, that is where the hypocrisy lies. It doesn't need to be a religion, but we need some sort of faith or group that we can go to for peace and love. We lack a lot of it now, and that is why we are all over the place, we don't have answers. We are forced to not be aware of what intentions these religions have, and we are born into them with the wrong perspective. It turned from a faith to a cult, we need something different that can keep the same feeling of support.

I feel like from an objective stance the human race is a failure. We do nothing but oppress when we get the chance and divide at every opportunity. In 200 years we've started the sixth great mass extinction. 500,000 babies die every year due to poor air quality but f*** the poor amirite.

If there is a god he's looking on in horror as his creation destroys itself.

Hmm Im not sure I agree with the first sentiment. The thing is, we're still such a young species (and primitive in many ways) we're bound to f*** up spectacularly along the way. But Im positive that, in time, we'll acomplish amazing things.

weird point to make when objectively society was way more degenerate when religious belief was at its most widespread

Easily a negative. Can’t fathom how many lives were needlessly lost through history due to religion.

we're not f***ing up. the people who have designed these systems have them working exactly as intended.

    Positive. It’s facts.

majority of religion throughout the ages have generally spoken about the same themes and subjects, just worded differently .

It gives people a sense of understanding of Life, the Universe, it gives a sense of purpose, and faith to life.

If you read any religious or spiritual book you’ll find useful information

I'm more of a "the rich stole all the water and broke the glass over the table and used it to threaten the poor with death so that they would be subservient to them and all of this happened hundreds of years ago which set us on our current path. We show no signs of stopping on this path either. In fact we are accelerating faster towards our own annihilation."

Then why it's the number one ambassador of all things wrong in our existence today... Like a sizeable portion of today's misogyny, homophobia, tribalism and violence is justified by faith. Not trying to hate tho

Religion, when it’s personal for someone seems to produce a lot more positivity from what I’ve seen.

Fair enough. However, despite all the atrocities and misery we've endured, take a look at all the huge advancements we've made in the last 100 years alone (in the fields of science, education, medicine etc) I keep mentioning it, but the show Cosmos really broadened my horizons and made me hopeful for our future as a species. But ofc it's all conditional on some major changes taking place.

Very tough answer, I see the good in religion for an individual and pillar for a society but does that outweigh the atrocities throughout history?

not really sure tbh, hard to think of a world that never developed religion and how that would be
