    I think it’s the complete opposite @op

Theirs a complete crisis with reading and literacy amongst kids and adults in the US

    https://edtrust.org/the-equity-line/the-literacy-crisis-in-the-u-s-is-deeply-concerning-and-totally-preventable/

And In terms of maturity, let’s just say most people in the US lack critical thinking skills to see beyond their worldview let alone think about complex ideas

    What's "seeing beyond worldview"

  • in certain areas it’s increasing and in others it’s falling off terribly

So you're saying the working class is now fundamentally uneducated?

I wouldn't make as broad and strong a classification as that, but it seems we close to something like that.

    America has the best universities?

Public university education is drastically different from high school education?

I’d say so. Both in actuality and perceptually. People from all around the world come here for degrees and highly respect American higher ed. The one thing the rest of the world won’t downplay is our universities.

They’ll talk s*** about our K-12 all day long though and it’s justified.

High school is very much what you make of it here. It can be good or bad depending on what’s available to you and if you can get AP classes and college prep.

Elementary school is the real issue

When you say universities, are you referring to Ivy Leagues or public state universities

  • I feel like it’s the opposite in general. We have unlimited information at our fingertips, but the education system is getting worse along with s***ty teacher pay and resources. Nevermind the fact that school systems still mindlessly push the idea of “get a degree, get a job and start a family!” Without giving kids the real tools and knowledge they need to succeed in todays society

  • I see the word "literacy" and my mind immediately goes to the education system, prompting me to say hell tf NO!!

The kids don't know how to read bro.

  • is it just me or is it getting crazier out there

Either or. We have the Ivys yes but we also have dozens and dozens of great universities, public and private, that are very good.

Like I keep thinking about this dude:

Dude is teaching seventh graders that don't even know shapes.

  • Hell nah. If anything it's getting worse. Kids today have no real role models or motivation. Just a bunch of sheep mentality and hedonism

  • twntytwntys

Instant gratification and dopamine are myths… they ARE toast in the sense that they’re so easy to influence. With dead internet theory and the state of psyops all over socials, they’re cursed with consuming it from birth

They're toast cus the economy is f***ed

    What's "seeing beyond worldview"

A lot of people in this climate are just subscribing to one idea because other people are following it as well and not knowing why advocate for it in the first place

This is a continuation of this morning's topic ?

  • yall doubt the kids too much.

this is my biggest pet peeve when ppl bring up this video. I don’t know how other people can’t tell, but as a teacher, he was being a d***head to those kids. they’re not gonna respond to u if u talk to them the way that he did. I guarantee u they know shapes, he just assumed they didn’t because no one answered him.

  • yall are starting to sound like a lot of yalls parents ngl

  • Need professor @ellielliellie to weigh in on this.

  • Is this a response to that ellie thread?

it’s hard to explain unless you have seen an adult do it to a child in real time. have you ever gotten in trouble with a parent and they go tell your business and then some exaggerate details of what you did to make it seem worse? that’s exactly what this was.

those kids know their shapes, he goes on in other videos to hold up random objects and ask the shapes of them and they can answer them no problem. he was being a d***head, the rest of the class he tells them if anyone else speaks he’s gonna write them a referral. not cool.
