always the moral panic. land of the free

  • Obviously people can do what they want with their own money. But if we are banning cig ads, there shouldn’t be gambling ads too. I always looked at gambling as an idiot tax.

  • People above the age of 50 doing more damage at the physical casinos but I can see how it's an easy pipeline

  • Gamboling should be illegal

i agree. i lost my mom to gambling, she was honest and caring before she got into it but by the end of our relationship she was a lying thief. she got into too much s*** and walked out on me without telling me and took all of my s*** with her, leaving me to figure out what to do with her place. she didn’t even tell me she was, my neighbors had to let me know. i won’t even fill out a scratch ticket.

This made me feel bad sorry to hear

Legalized gambling is a good thing, generally speaking. PPH and bigger offshore books can be dangerous for customers with no KYC rules in place. The problem is that the industry is supposed to be "regulated" but the giant domestic books are incredibly predatory with the bonus bets they hand out and encouraging losing bettors to spend more.

If you're a winning bettor, FanDuel and DraftKings sportsbooks will kick you off their platforms. If you're a losing bettor, they'll pepper your account with bonus bets, deposit matches, risk-free bets. etc, anything to get you to keep spending. Further, it's now abundantly clear that books and other betting platforms (e.g. PrizePicks) are teaming up with big social media personalities to fabricate winning tickets. The whole thing is messed up, but it's not because of legalized gambling. It's because the average bettor is completely uneducated on how to bet smartly and there are very few educational resources out there to help people learn.

If you have some time check out the video I linked if you haven’t already. You made some great nuanced points that I agree with and was brought up in the video. Education and resources are key to enjoy things in moderation but right now it’s the Wild West and capitalism is going to capitalism as hard as it can until it is forced by regulation

It sucks because in our instant gratification obsessed society, the 11 leg parlay sucks people in and that's all they think gambling is. Brilliant for the books and the consumer loses

Agreed. Once they inevitably make the final push to have full out casino gambling on mobile devices it’s so over

  • Agree very weird once sports started promoting it

  • gambling in general is a disgrace but there's something particularly insidious about how easy it is to access now. how do people watch their grandmother blow her social security on scratch-offs? I want to nail gus the groundhog to the crucifix.

Reminds of when Trae knew his parlay and intentionally missed it just to troll lmfao

  • The thing is, gambling is a world wide thing and we’re actually glorifying that nasty ass s*** in the west. Watch any sports event and it’ll be advertising gambling 50% of the time. The rat race man
