I wasn’t checking for drake in 2010-2011 ishh but still managed to hear him everywhere. Not the case for jack
theres something about the way he raps that, idk, I feel like I could listen to an album of his and not remember a damn thing he said 5 minutes later.
Yeah, I kinda get what you saying.
It’s similar to drake though bc it’s like you don’t really know what he said but you remember the lyrics/how it goes anyways
There’s no way you remember what that man said/was talking about on Champagne Poetry. But when the song starts you might be able to sing along
Harlow definitely needs those statement pieces though that the entire song has a strong concept behind it. Like best I ever had, Marvin’s Room, Feel No Ways, Look What You’ve Done/You & The 6
I feel like he already has the Memorable/catchy but non personal songs down that drake had like HYFR, The Motto, with his singles
next drake is gonna be a j balvin, bad bunny type nigga hate to break it to you but anglophone music dying out tbh
Latinos, Canadians, Brits, and Koreans been owning Americans in music for quite some time tbh

Not exactly 1:1, landscape a lot different
i mean its not like anyone cared bout that while he was alive ? But yeah that wouldnt allow him to have pop radio hits and such as drake got
But i think in terms of running rap X was about to take that spot man
that's what I mean. X could've run rap but I could not see him getting the corporate ties and affiliations that boosted Drake to becoming the pop culture figure he is today. Maybe a few years would've had to pass and it would've happened for himbut the way things were looking X was gonna have to face at least a little prison time around the time he passed. but I guess we'll never know
All OP is doing is setting Jack up for failure. At Jack's age, Drake's debut album debuted with almost half a million first week and he had a legitimate grip on the game. Jack doesn't have that.
Jack doesn’t have a Wayne co-sign either
That debut album of drakes came after a mixtape that had 4 Wayne features , and 1 on the debut album along with Jay Z, TI, and Kanye on the album
The entire industry was handed to him on a platter, basically
My point in this thread is saying if Drake takes him under his wing then I think that could happen for Harlow too
What makes Drake unique is how he's able to resonate with the suburbs, streets/clubs, and international market at the same time.
For White rappers, it's easy to resonate with the 1st and sometimes the last but the middle is usually what's missing in the equation.
Besides Future, nobody ran urban radio as much as Drake in the past decade. That's one thing that gets left out of the discusssion.
Also, times have changed and I objectively don't see Jack breaking anywhere as much records as Drake in this era. He's more like where Macklemore was.

It’s a different world
Everything is fragmented.
Radio basically controlled the country back then. Now people listen to either their own playlists or playlists curated by the streaming services
Point being if you want to live in your own bubble you can
Jack is streaming more than Ye rn on Spotify so it doesn’t matter if you yourself heard him. He’s being heard by a lot of people

Jack Harlow will never be Drake level but comparing him to Macklemore is just foul.... ppl f*** w/ Jack Harlow (especially the females all thirst over him) but nobody was f***ing with Macklemore instead of white radio

and a bunch of people cared, that s*** would've hurt his perception in the Pop world too. Pop fans are among the main ones doing all this cancel s***.

No
He’s one of the only new generation artists that is known almost purely for his music. No gimmicks, no scandals, just bars
He does have a gimmick though, he's known for being sus and crashing interviews flirting with other celebs

all jack needs to do to get the streets is continue making great records with the people who naturally speak to the streets

Macklemore was the first rapper to ever have a Diamond single.....and this was before the streaming era.
His debut sold almost as well as NWTS in pure sales and he was able to appeal to teenage girls and soccer moms.
Everyone, even on KTT, was saying he had the potential to overtake Drake just like with Jack rn but we saw how he wasn't able to sustain it.
It's not as wild of a comparison as you think. If Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us dropped in the streaming era, Macklemore would probably have been the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2013.
Edit: And Macklemore was doing songs with Schoolboy Q and Lil Yachty for urban appeal.
I'm not a Drake fan but I don't think you guys realize just how good Drake is at making hits/classics

I don't care how big numbers that man did, it's straight cap nobody on KTT gave a f*** about Macklemore i was there and nobody took him seriously
You can't listen to his music and say he had potential to be Drake level. Drake had so many different people he could reach with his music
Nobody who loves hiphop and is in tune with the culture claimed Macklemore

It’s a different world for sure so every niche will have its own artists that runs that lane instead of 1 artist running them all
But I’m making the comparison bc I don’t think anyone else is going to be more similar to drake in the sense that they are highly listened to in many different lanes
You brought up urban radio, and to me this song is a great example of Jack being able to be in that space . Give it a listen if you never heard it
No, he won’t.
He’s a simulacrum. A copy.
Drake created his own artistic identity. He had multiple influences but he synthesized these inspirations to create his own vision. And I agree that these days, Drake’s music feels formulaic. But he still built his own lane.
I like Harlow. I think I discovered his music in 2018. But his music always felt derivative to me. If he doesn’t try to create his own artistic universe, he’ll end up like G-Eazy.
He does have a gimmick though, he's known for being sus and crashing interviews flirting with other celebs
That’s branding, not a gimmick
2 different things
Also, crashing interviews isn’t his “thing”

I seriously don't get how y'all itt comparing Jack to people like Macklemore and G-Eazy
If anything compare him to Mac (even though i don't believe Jack Harlow has the potential to become as interesting musically and substance wise as him) because he at least got play by different people, not only the white crowd
