That’s branding, not a gimmick
2 different things
Also, crashing interviews isn’t his “thing”
It kinda has become a gimmick at this point, what even is the difference in this meme era between the two anymore
And yeah he crashed Saweeties interview and flirted, he did the same to Lil Nas X... i bet you he WILL do it again
I seriously don't get how y'all itt comparing Jack to people like Macklemore and G-Eazy
If anything compare him to Mac (even though i don't believe Jack Harlow has the potential to become as interesting musically and substance wise as him) because he at least got play by different people, not only the white crowd
I meant “he’ll end up being forgettable” not “he’ll end up popular with white people only”.
I meant “he’ll end up being forgettable” not “he’ll end up popular with white people only”.
I mean, could be. But the fact that he's not solely popular with the white crowd shows that he has potential to have bigger reach thus more staying power as well
I'm not a Drake fan but I don't think you guys realize just how good Drake is at making hits/classics
There isn't gonna be another Drake and if there actually was a "Next Drake", it wouldn't be someone who makes songs just like him
Y’all say s*** like this so Drake stans can be like “y’all said he was going to be the next drake “ later down the line
He can’t be the next drake
Drake had a mixtape run and the hottest rapper in the game co signing him
Rapper who gets to be white and black is the closest thing he has going for him for a comparison
It’s a different world
Everything is fragmented.
Radio basically controlled the country back then. Now people listen to either their own playlists or playlists curated by the streaming services
Point being if you want to live in your own bubble you can
Jack is streaming more than Ye rn on Spotify so it doesn’t matter if you yourself heard him. He’s being heard by a lot of people
Okay. But jack Harlow is no where near drake in terms of quality
he doesn't have the versatility, hit making capabilities or biggest rapper in the world at the time taking him under his wing like drake did in 2009
He’s one of the only new generation artists that is known almost purely for his music. No gimmicks, no scandals, just bars
Who is taking jack harlow music serious in nature though everytime y’all bring up “_ is going to be as big as drake”
y’all really think drake is looked at as a goat simply because of his mainstream appeal when he’s had an entire underdog era with Young money, while having songs rapping with other goats, he was a divisive artist while still being popular because of his vulnerability, he was running summers with features, and had music that you couldn’t compare to anyone else’s from his generation.
It kinda has become a gimmick at this point, what even is the difference in this meme era between the two anymore
And yeah he crashed Saweeties interview and flirted, he did the same to Lil Nas X... i bet you he WILL do it again
He didn’t know Saweetie was being interviewed, so yes he crashed it but it was unintentional. So he only crashed Lil Nas X interview but it’s not really out of line as a gimmick imo bc they were performing together that night and had a huge song out together
The difference between Gimmick and branding Is that a gimmick is just for attention, but not saying anything specific about who you are/what you stand for. And it’s usually a one time thing. Lil Yachty having red hair/beads in his hair when he first came on the scene was a gimmick. It still kinda is, but he integrated it into his branding at this point
When Lil Pump kept talking about icarly/Megan cosgrove; that was a gimmick. But pump saying he is a Harvard dropout is branding bc it is tongue in cheek commentary on his beliefs about school/college
Jack being a ladies man is apart of his brand and sure he leans into it. But that’s apart of drake’s branding as well, although at one point there were all the memes of drake being a Simp around 2011 (was still branding, not a gimmick)
Imo, I think that this is why Xxxtentacion became so big bc all of his gimmicks were actually just apart of his brand. Him trolling drake was seen as rebellion against the mainstream industry by his fans so the effect was amplified. Same for a lot of other stuff he did
Jack doesn’t have a Wayne co-sign either
That debut album of drakes came after a mixtape that had 4 Wayne features , and 1 on the debut album along with Jay Z, TI, and Kanye on the album
The entire industry was handed to him on a platter, basically
My point in this thread is saying if Drake takes him under his wing then I think that could happen for Harlow too
''The entire industry was handed to him on a platter, basically''. What a way to s*** on Drake's talent and skill set. So Wayne is why Drake has ran the game for the last 12 years, right? F*** outta here.

I personally think Jack music stands out completely from his generation/peers
And I think a lot of his fans think that way as well, which is all that matters
Our perception is our reality and if enough people think it then that will start to shape the world
quite literally the opposite. Nobody knows his music besides like 2-3 songs
cap

I don’t feel like the instances you name show a line between gimmick or branding at all man
Branding is also with the intention of generating interest or attention. Lil Yachty with red hair is not branding but a gimmick? But when Jack does a reoccuring thing you call it branding?
I get that youre a fan of his, thats cool, i wasn’t even implying a gimmick is supposed to be a negative thing either
They pretty much the same thing the way you just explained it
There will never be another Drake. It's really that simple. I know Drake has compared himself to other legendary rappers throughout his career but in reality, he didn't fashion his career into what anyone has done before. He did it HIS way with HIS sound and HIS style.
Jack Harlow can be inspired by Drake but he's better off doing things HIS way. That's really the only way he'll ever truly stand out and build a legitimate legacy for himself.
Y’all say s*** like this so Drake stans can be like “y’all said he was going to be the next drake “ later down the line
Sometimes Drake stans are making up their own "enemies" too though. Everytime a Drake single or set of singles drop, they go "Y'all said it would flop!!" When literally no one with half a brain would say that.
