It keeps the insane weirdos away from the functioning society. There should be Stronger rehabilitation centers in prison, but no one wants to pay more taxes for someone who raped and killed someone. Mental health is a concern on this topic but no one has the answer or the cure for why people do evil things other than mental health. Evil energy is just something that is apart of this world with no cure. They can go through rehab and release them back into society, but how do we know they won’t go back and shoot up
another school? Are you willing to take that risk? Cause I’m not lol

I'm a CO and trust me. We need jails. Some people should never get out, society is better off. They have their homies and own little world inside.

Provincial Jail in Canada. Different dynamics here but not by much. We house sentenced inmates (2 year sentences or less) and those who are remanded, awaiting trial or sentencing.

So anywhere from petty theft criminals to murderers.

I agree with you in the sense that perhaps some lower-level or non-violent criminals should try to rehabilitated instead of locking them up instantly.

I think we're better off not stuffing a bunch of f***ing people into boxes, many of whom have substance abuse and mental illness problems and having ill equipped people who only trained for a few weeks-months look after them.

You call it whatever you want but if you’re in a place where your freedom is taken away from you, it’s a jail.

So “rehab facilities” is just a nicer way to say jail. Thus, you’re not getting rid of jails/prisons.

Like if a guy kills someone chops them up and tries to hide the body, where’s does he go? To rehab? What’s the rehab process? How do you when they’re rehabilitated? What’s the control process for making sure they’re not cheating the system?

Look as someone who’s UNFAIRLY been through the US justice system, I see it’s flaws and I hate it. But, getting rid of jails won’t fix s***. It actually might make things worse, a whole lot more worse.

All of 3 of those do not make up a large portion of the prison population in the US. And pedophiles and rapists do not get a lot of time as it is, so those are the people you would want to rehabilitate the most. Also, most murderers do not have the mindset of serial killers which is just to kill people for pleasure, most of the time it can be linked to s*** like domestic violence, poverty, substance abuse issues, mental illness, etc. I do there agree that are people that "can't" be rehabilitated with current means, but it is greatly exacerbated the amount to which how many people are like that due to how we conditioned to think about crime. And with those people we will have to keep trying in order to figure out a way and a method that works because it literally makes no sense to continue to push for an archaic system that has proven time again and again it has failed.
