This thread really hurts me because I’m too short to be a boyfriend

Edit: Just to clarify, I’m 170 something cm

Perhaps UFTA and other tracks are for JIB

I highly doubt he cut tracks and kept it short for fear of failure. People liked the longer leaked versions more because they were more fleshed out. So not a failure.

With Kanye I always expect the worst outcome. He gives us what we need but that might not we want.
Scared about UFTA because this song seems like one without Sunday Service.

Interestingly I heard a gospel historian saying Kanye's album being 30 minutes long makes it more purposeful because you're about to go on that 'spiritual' journey in a way that fits in with your daily life. In a car journey or while making some food etc. I think for those types of listeners these types of albums are really important parts of their day and maybe they want projects that they'll always be able to fit into their days.

And if they're needing more - go watch a 90 minute Sunday Service or listen twice.

And really, have you ever listened to a 9 track, 2 interlude EP?

This is an interesting point, but I think that this is a coincidence. Yes, I went a little too hard with that EP thing, but you know, for me an album is from 35 up to whatever more minutes.

The TLOPaul style extended edit someone will eventually make + a b-sides disc with all the leftover tracks on it + Jesus Is Born = classic

How could you call this an EP tho? The production value and everything around it. The dedication to one direction to the point he's spending around 1 million a month to deliver Sunday Service's. This is an important statement for him from one of the most special artists of the last few decades.

It's 9 full songs, 2 interludes - how is that an EP to you? An EP is 5-6 songs at most. Are you telling me that Prince's 80s classics aren't albums? Surely not? Cos by your logic they aren't.

what if it's short cos he wants it to be inspired by the gospel tracks he loves? I know some songs he references like Never Would Have Made It by Marvin Sapp have long original recordings but a lot of the music he used to subtly reference gospel on TCD, LR, Be, Pablo, Only One - comes from a different tradition pioneered and popularized by artists such as Rosetta Tharpe who mostly have recordings around the 2

Take that on top of how he always loves to relate gospel to what's going on right now. There's been a move to shorter song structures and lengths within hip hop - think about the younger artists coming through and soundcloud rap hits. This seems an amazing time to do this kind of short song structures because they relate to the era of gospel that inspired most great soul, R&B and rock music as well as a lot of hip hop as well as the way rap is leaning structurally at the moment in general.

Also any longer and the album most likely goes into other territory. He wants to make a completely devotional album, it

And I go back to my point - if artists like Prince, the Rolling Stones, John Lennon and David Bowie had seminal, often classic albums just as short why can't Kanye? Or would you tell them their albums weren't real albums and were weird too despite their long lasting impact, praise, success and how well-loved those projects are?

If you don't think it's good music, that's fine, but really what's wrong with the length? Are you saying all 30 minute albums are bad? You're telling me albums like Dirty Mind aren't classics??

Thanks man, sincerely, you are truly dropping some knowledge on me. I think that the problem here is that I don't have to wait for Bowie or Prince albums as they already exist, so I'm not mad about it. But with Kanye there is probably a one year (or even more) of waiting before he drops another project.
