Jul 22, 2022just got out of the theater and this was a solid 9/10 from me. I feel like it lowkey could be his best film with time

I also think it helped set up that Steven Yeun's character thinks he could control the alien because he was the only one who didn't get attacked when the chimp was out of control. It didn’t seem to affect him traumatically but left him seeking out that feeling of taming danger

If I could compare it to Us/Get out is that
Like Get Out, I was actively tuned in the whole time even though it was kind of a slow burn
Like Us, it gets scary enough at times and builds up tension with some good humor sprinkled in there
The best of both movies, you think you have an idea of what’s going on and then you’re hit with the underlying message/theme once you think about it some more

I feel like Zendaya (written and directed by Jordan Peele)as the main star in a movie,would be her real breakout role. I can see her and Peele being a dynamic duo after how he wrote Keke Palmet.

Think I've come to the slight conclusion that the monkey scene means alot of things,but one of them is definitely the fact that the baloons popping and it being the monkeys natural habitat to just go wild makes me think that a bunch of those aliens have visited earth a bunch throughout history(and they've been defeated before)till the point monkeys in the NOPE universe automatically recognize balloons popping as a threat naturally.

we try to control things not natural to us as entertainment and it backfires. The show runners for the show Ricky was on tried to parade Gordy around not realizing he’s dangerous as f\*\*\*. Now that Ricky is older he’s doing the same with ‘Jean Jacket’.
you could also add that there’s things that trigger Gordy/Jean Jacket/any predator in general that will awaken their innate being. Gordy was with the balloons, Jean Jacket was eating the fake horse. For 6 months the monster had a routine etc until OJ & Em fed it the fake horse then it went on a rampage
