That's a huge debate imo, but as someone who really loves Journals and felt the heavy Usher influences on that project.

I felt like if he had let JT mentor him then Usher, he would've helped hone in his songwriting and production skills way earlier in his career, which would've probably lead to him having a way better discography of now. I like where JB's at musically, but he's definitely R&B to the max.

Usher's mentoring tho really helped his singing skils, plus his choreography (early career). But that's about it.

I felt his musical vision start to come together when he got with Poo-Bear (who helped co wrote Superstar with Usher).
