Vol 1 is some of the best s*** in Jay’s catalog to me

One In A Million, Imaginary Players, Friend or Foe II, Where Im From, Who U Wit, You Must Love Me, Lucky Me all one one album is crazy

But I def rank dynasty over vol 2 & 3

    Vol 1

4 albums between RD and BP that were just okay to pretty good.. bp2 mid, kingdom come, mchg all mid and all minimal kanye production if at all

The non-Kanye produced song, produced by none other than No ID (shoutout my other comment) on MCHG broke Kanye and Jay’s relationship cause it was that good so…

    Classique

you can say kanye saved common’s and pusha t’s careers because he gave them a big boost when they were kind of at a crossroads and helped give post retirement jay a second wind but people give him way more credit than he deserves for his helping some established people

a 55k #1 is INSANE lmfaooo Ye def saved that nigga

we need a thread on how bad music was overall before niggas start attacking rap if Pusha went #1 with just 55k in 2022

  • glockglockglock

that account is run by a person who was like 5 when blueprint came out lol

I keep seeing stupid ass tweets like this. Has this been a narrative or did it only start recently?

this holds up, jay z would not have been able to be as popular into the 10s if it was not for kanye. this is just reality lol

    Explain

  • Gawpers

    definitely true with WTT

but ridiculous saying he needed saving around BP1

  • notbrock

    Explain

There was a definite frenzy about Ye at the time period, the Taylor Swift stuff, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" him moving away from a traditional hip hop sound (multiple times) and still finding success.

It may have not been reflected numbers wise but imo in terms of relevancy there wasn't much Hov was doing at the time to generate buzz like the way Ye was.

And yeah Hov spent decades building that mammoth empire of his (which yes, Ye 100% benefitted from) so credit to him for getting 450k+ on every release but generating buzz is a whole different story.

Hard thing to measure, so I guess a lot of this is just "I remember it this way" but Hov definitely aligned himself with a character that was widely seen as wild and untamed not just in the white folk world but also in hip hop for him deviating a lot from the norm at the time.

Man no his discography isn’t iffy

BP2 has too much filler and Kingdom Come is bad

If you wanna say vol 2 & 3 aged bad then alright but vol 2 especially was a major album for its time

The rest of his discography is fire

    Kingdom Come is overhated

  • mr get dough

Im really about to ask yall to explain yall Jay Z takes in depth bc I feel like people just be repeat what they see other people say about him without listening for themselves

  • CreamyGuy45

Also let's not forget TWO of these albums happened

The first one (BOBW) was nice

  • mr get dough

Only 2 misses Sunshine and I Know What Girls Like (worst jay song to me)

I will die for every other joint on that album

    Sunshine is a summer banger

y’all disrespectful as f*** to the real reason which is No ID if we’re keeping it ALL THE WAY a bean. Ye helped immensely but No ID gave us DOA and so much other s*** for Jay and other artists, especially Sean. his production run from 2008 to 2017 is a goated run

No ID didn’t produce Empire State of Mind

  • Come on, I know we all hate the jackass Kanye now, but Jay with Kanye from like 2008-2012, is very important to his longevity and giving him a second big run with a younger crowd. Kanye had the midas touch at that time even by association. I think he has found his comfort spot after MCHG, but Kanye was a big part in bridging the gap to elder statesman of rap.

Watch the Throne - self explanatory….Kanye even said Jay was keeping songs that Kanye intended for his projects for that project. The project benefited Jay Z more than Kanye. Even some of what ended up on MCHG was originally intended for WTT.

Blueprint 3 - NO ID’s involvement is probably because of Kanye. Look at the credits. Kanye has co-production on a lot of those tracks with NO ID because they likely started with him and Kanye. NO ID is Kanye’s mentor. If you think Kanye didn’t have any involvement in NO ID even being in Jay’s orbit, idk what to tell you.

    With Kanye:

“Monster” - we know Jay sounded uncomfortable on this song.
    “Power Remix”
“Run This Town” - we’re going to pretend Kanye wasn’t the draw to that song?
    “Clique”
    All of Watch the Throne
“Death of Autotune” - Kanye gave him the idea ironically.
    “Swagger like Us”
Good amounts of BP3…probably the better parts of it along with NO ID.

    Without Kanye = Jay Sinatra
“Meiple” with Robin Thicke - what a disaster
“Suit and Tie” - lol, a correction to the above abomination. Jay without ye during this time period was trying to be this Frank Sinatra type figure of rap, and idk it came off like how it sounds: dated.
“Empire State of Mind” - undeniable hit, but i once again feel like it’s this Frank Sinatra type song.

    And
“On to the Next” - which made some noise but ehhhh.

my bad i was reading as i was typing, meant run this town. he has 5 production credits on BP3 tho which is only one less than Kanye

  • His career was never on the decline tho. This logic would have should apply to every rapper then lmao

I have seen it be said that Ye saved Twistas career though lol. Not sure if there’s validity to that,

But I think this Jay Z narrative is definitely new

nah ive seen this take pushed QUITE a lot by kanye stans early on this site

the exact points too about him carrying him on wtt and giving him swag for MCHG, niggas did NOT respect hov on here.

  • Mar 24

    OP stinks

  • doot

    Correct

  • I’m sure Kanye was beneficial for Jay-Z’s career, but Kanye probably benefited from Jay Z just as much, if not more..

Blueprint is a classic, and standout record in Jay’s discography. But Jay had access to the best producers in the industry at that point. Had he not worked with Kanye, he would have still been able to find just as talented producers to work with
