It’s just dope to see how calculated and smart he is. But when ol’ poppa Duke got smoked, and Paul was trying to grieve but wasn’t able to... I felt that, man

    The cost of power

How’d you like it? We’re about half way through rn. Or at least the folks that have been following the schedule are lol

Not quite at the half yet but tonight definitely:

I am intrigued by the constant feeling of tense, especially in the beginning and right before the inevitable fall of Leto Atreides. What I also find very interesting is the importance of water and the ways the Fremen and other people are going to prevent the loss of it and to conserve it.

The universe itself is very complex and it is easy to get confused by all the different sayings, themes, characters etc. I think I need a reread and additional literature/reading to fully immerse into the ecology, technology, and religious themes of Dune.

Open for discussions, interesting takes etc.

The philosophy/history of the universe are some of the most interesting parts of the book to me, I wish the philosophies/religions were expanded on a little more

The first thought I had is that the author does an exceptional job at being visual. The only time I had a hard time envisioning what was happening was when there was mention of foam holding up sand.

Paul has quite the unique journey in terms of how he behaves considering the traditional path he's seemingly going through. I'm a sucker for themes involving religion and it's probably my favourite part of the world building for me.

I didn't have a hard time with the language and themes, however I did have to google the characters frequently in Book 1 just to get a visual memory of anyone who wasn't the Baron, Paul, his father or his mother lol. BTW there is a glossary in the back you can refer to but I didn't even realise it was there till after I was done.

The foam part got me too ngl. I was hoping that Duncan Idaho may survive, because in the movie he got clapped pretty quickly, but I was wrong. Haven’t finished yet though so.... RIP Idaho/Momoa for now :cryfam:

The parts of the book where Paul & his mother were trapped in the desert before they met the Fremen kinda dragged tbh, I really enjoyed Kynes chapter :jordancry:

I didn't mind it at all and I was expecting it but it was hard for me to imagine and keep up w/ the imagery the writer was tryna portray in the writing

    Ahhh gotchu,

After that high speed action phase, all the visuals he was tryna portray in the slow patch seemed to come eaiser to me

Like when theyre crossing the sand it was easy for me to slow it down and imagine each step

Who are some of y'alls favorite characters in the book beside Paul? I like the Baron, Kynes R.I.P. & Jessica

  • Mar 9, 2020

Extremely late but I saw this very cheap in a charity shop and tempted to get it to join in. Not much of a sci fi guy but I hear this is worth reading even for non sci fi fans
