In a perfect world yes. Unfortunately we don’t live there. You do realize he has to pay property tax and whatever it costs to upkeep the property right?

Instead of letting people live in said home for free why not charge them the property tax plus whatever repairs to upkeep the house?

It’s not a bad idea but I don’t think it would be easy to constantly find grants to maintain whatever I built for the community.

Is it wrong to charge for the service even if it’s just the bare minimum to cover the expenses of keeping it?

Look if ur trying to do something good for the community then you aren't evil for charging a small fee. We all partake in capitalism to varying degrees. Its the parasites like landlords who are evil

Maybe somebody who will inherit a house can simply give the ownership away to somebody or a family who is going to live in it, with some sort of contract that prohibits them to profit off of it.
