Not more than streaming
People's listening habits when it comes to albums do not include actually buying the album
What tells you who listens to you on the daily is your a***ytics.
In an era where no one really post streaming era moves crazy units, this is a great indicator that people actually are listening to Latto for instance, despite mediocre 1st week numbers
Her entire fanbase is filled with young people who stream music. How would sales indicate much about who's listening to her on the daily?
https://twitter.com/chartdata/status/1822781292007792977streaming is factored into first week sales though
I keep hearing about how good the album is but those first week predictions are way too close to ice spices for people to like her as much as they say they do?
So whats the real story with her music? Im not really a fan but its probably not for me but there is a definitely a disconnect.
who likes latto like this?
Drake/Nicki/Kendrick/Future/Cole are the last rap mega stars we're ever gonna get. They either can't or don't want to develop new ones.
The music industry is cooked. A lot of the entertainment industry in general is cooked. Try to find music you enjoy and not worry about the numbers.
This is not a female rapper issue
It's a music industry issue.
Who actually is selling that are not legacy acts?
IMO album sales determine next to nothing
lil baby
streaming is factored into first week sales though
You're not getting it
It is, but that does not take into account the behavior of listeners
It would take 150 MILLION STREAMS to 'sell' 100k. So imagine, how many streams it would take to constitute one whole sale.
Most people, aside from her fans, are only streaming an album once or twice, if at all.
So if her fanbase is full of young people who are streaming her album, why would the 1st week sale figure tell you much?

https://twitter.com/chartdata/status/1822781292007792977nobody is playing latto be serious. They not even playing her song with drake
This thread would fit sexxy redd a whole lot more cuz they don't Even hype latto up all that much in the mainstream whereas they treat sexxy like a superstar and her sales minuscule af compared to how they promote her
lil baby
I didn't ask that question to suggest that there isn't anyone, so yeah of course lil baby.
But the list is incredibly short.
Labels are starting to prioritize post release more with artists budgets, and that's a direct correlation to them realizing that 1st week sales numbers are pretty archaic.

if you only playing an album one time in a week you clearly didnt like it ☠️
They literally blaming latto for the drake song flopping does that sound like someone they hyping?
Nigga If you don’t go and listen to the album and decide if you like it or not
who likes latto like this?
maybe they dont because even the album replies are pretty low considering. its probably the promotion making her seem bigger than she is.
nobody is playing latto be serious. They not even playing her song with drake
No one playing Latto is just wrong
You think this is just some made up number?
Nigga If you don’t go and listen to the album and decide if you like it or not
Accusing op of testing the waters on ktt2 prior to making a decision on latto is high key hilarious

i was trying to avoid bringing bro up but it’s pretty hilarious ngl lmao
no talk about the drake stimmy for awhile now
No one playing Latto is just wrong

https://twitter.com/chartdata/status/1822781292007792977not being literal lol. but latto is not some huge rapper. She is doing decent numbers for her.
even the replies on that post were disappointed with the number
That does little to dissuade my point
That just means people are slow to grasp what's happening in the business
How many albums did they expect for her to 'sell'?
Hundreds of Millions of streams for her with singles like Put it On The Floor, etc. is a win for her
not being literal lol. but latto is not some huge rapper. She is doing decent numbers for her.
I do not think Latto is some huge artist 😂
That was not the point
The point simply is that her streaming numbers tell you way more than some archaic 1st week sales number
They do not determine a lot for an artist in 2024. It's simply a piece of the whole pie for major label acts.
Out of all of the new rappers who've debuted in 2019, 2020, the fact that very few of them have cleared 100K speaks to the point
Every year less and less rappers sell well commercially, and that's to be expected. Labels as a result are for sure starting to value 1st week sales less and less, and that's factually true.
That’s just not true at all.
The biggest artists still are the ones that have the highest first weeks.
And nowadays, most albums don’t sell steadily over time. They usually peak out and then have a fast decline over the following weeks and months.
It’s literally common sense that labels want their artists to have high first week sales, it’s why we see so many artists doing the physical variants and whatever other gimmick is hot at the moment
