I mean some kids may look at it as trauma, others won't.

In this case it does seem like her beatings weren't warranted and stemmed from issues happening with Lauryn in which case I disagree with.

For sure, my only concern is are those latter halves repressing their trauma?

I have a friend with a similar story and I sent her the link for her view, and she was ambivalent. But she got similar punishment for sneaking out of the house, stealing, aggravated assault, etc. etc. And I just thought "Well... I mean. You see why you got your ass whooped, right?" But she doesn't associate her actions with the consequences. She to this day thinks the punishment was disproportionate and unprovoked

If Selah did absolutely nothing to warrant this, Lauryn legitimately abused her children and that's alarming. That's not even a conversation on discipline

When you "actually parent" by not beating your kids and it don't ever set them straight

I agree with the thing about Lauryn, it is abuse if Selah done nothing wrong. The case with your friend though seems like it was deserved and that's on her if she views it like that honestly.

Is she still sneaking into houses and stealing?

Hell no, they whooped some sense into her. She was set straight. She realised her Mother was more of a judge than the judge

Now she's a happily married Mother deciding how best to discipline her children

It really does work for most, I would never go overboard or anything. I'd actually avoid it as much as possible unless I'm left with no other choice.

Apparently not. If all I had to worry about was being grounded I would've been way worse cause being grounded was not s*** for me.

Nah from my experience in working at Gamestop, the parents will just buy them a new headset and some vbucks to "Get them to chill out"

you mean saying that beatings("deserved" in this sense) are bad because they'll inflict trauma? i mean there are anecdotes on both sides but i don't see scientific articles promoting it
