wow like that isn't everyone else's reaction

it's not about what the kid wants. it's about what they need

kids need to be disciplined and for a lot of kids spanking works. you may choose not to spank your kid(s) but some of us will because it's been proven to work from personal experience.

And spanking isn't always necessary. Just taking the belt out and snapping it with a mean stare is enough sometimes

“ To proclaim or put forth in a sermon.
intransitive verb To advocate, especially to urge acceptance of or compliance with.
intransitive verb To deliver (a sermon).”

sharing views isn’t the same thing.

You being obtuse for no reason. Preaching is literally sharing a view in the turn of a sermon.

I’m so happy that it’s illegal to hit/spank a child in my country.
The fact that there are so many people in this thread co-signing adults hitting/spanking kids is f***ing disgusting.

    What country is that?

No I'm adding to the commentary on child abuse. There's a book by a child abuse victim where his Mother called him "It" because he "didn't deserve a name". This was coupled with intense physical abuse - not to downplay the thread, but this was legitimate child abuse (burning his skin, keeping him locked in the basement without food, having him eat his own faeces)

If you are abusing your child on this level outside "reasonable punishment" then it's a legal problem and must be dealt with by law enforcement

But if you occasionally hit your child as a last resort, I'm going to leave that to the parent's discretion

I cannot make a blanket statement as to whether reasonable physical discipline is right or wrong - it's case by case

But as someone who was psychologically and physically abused, I walked off the latter, never the former

Anyone ever notice how people who say “nothing wrong with a whooping” or “damn straight my mom whooped me and taught me respect” are usually the most underdeveloped juvenile people on the planet? Those are usually the people that are 40 and remind you of how kids are in high school as far as emotional maturity and s***

There's too much subjectivity in what a "beating" or "whipping" consist of. My mom "beat" me...yet here I am..emotionally mature..stable...with a Masters degree. I've also seen people say they got "beat" and their mom hit them with irons, remotes, and extension cords and left marks. My parents never left any marks and I was never disciplined because their problems were taken out on me. S***, I don't even believe corporal punishment is necessary.

This conversation requires nuance that KTT doesn't have the capability to engage in as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah there's so much here at play: one-parent household disciplining dynamic mainly

We've gone straight into whether physically disciplining your child constitutes as child abuse

Nobody is cancelling her or her music because of this

As far as I can tell, she is a normal African American Mother and a product of her time

I watched the live. Which part falls under the remit of mistreatment?

What the live doesn't include is context. Was this disproportionate? Did this happen randomly, without warning? Did it escalate beyond reason?

No Black person I know didn't get the belt or be told "fix your face". But they misbehaved a lot to get to that point (they never mention that part though)
