Yeah there's so much here at play: one-parent household disciplining dynamic mainly
We've gone straight into whether physically disciplining your child constitutes as child abuse
That and you know how people act now everybody got some war story about childhood trauma and they’ll throw out heavy terms to describe it. So ultimately I look at this as something for her and the family to figure out.
C***detected
Lame detected. Imagine thinking hitting your child is ever good. You don't even see animals physically try to harm their child as a punishmnet. It's just a snap or snarl

I respect her a lot for starting this dialogue
I hope any person realizes being whipped by a belt or wire is abuse. It's not just a simple punishment

Why don't you let parents discipline their children how they want?

Legally it is not
Think I'm ever gonna let my future kids tell me to f*** off etc like some caucasians do and not beat them? Hell no

Several animals kill their youngins because they're too weak or stop feeding them and s*** but I see what you're doing trying to say...

lol how things run in the household as a child directly guides how u see relationships as an adult. If you getting s*** taken out on you physically as a child for something that isn’t your fault, that will warp your mind. you forever have a skewed view on how the world works
she struggles with relationships today because her brain takes what she saw in her household as a child and tries to mold how her relationships should take place today to fit that image. that’s why childhood trauma is so damaging, it has long reach and affects u your whole life
and you don’t get to be the judge of whether or not someone was really affected by their adolescence, only they know that
Make sure you add *This does not always apply to every child somewhere in your post.

I'm never going to hit my kid, but I'm not ignorant to believe it isn't happening. It's to their discretion until it becomes GBH and legal child abuse

Come from different backgrounds so I wouldn't expect you to understand, I'd try other methods but nothing wrong with discipline.
I'm never going to hit my kid, but I'm not ignorant to believe it isn't happening. It's to their discretion until it becomes GBH and legal child abuse
If my father never beat me God knows how I would've ended up, I'm grateful for it.

That's easy to say but I'll have you know that most parents don't intend on snapping on their kids, smacking them during a temper tantrum and s*** like that either you're gonna take it and drag your kid through the mall or smack his finger with a comb either way you're not gonna talk every kid out of certain situations and some parents then lose control... it's good though that physical discipline isn't in your starter kit...

She’s got the right to feel how she feels but hill also said this "Selah has every right to express herself, I encourage it, but she also got the discipline that black children get because we are held to a different standard," and she’s right about that. And with her being who she is her daughter would be exposed to a different world where she needed to know discipline.
Also it seems she’s more caught up on “that’s some slave master s***” than the actual beatings. Just because she had to have her hands in the air (obviously a child will try to cover themselves from getting hit) maybe she feels like her mom wasn’t there enough which she might not have been due to her lifestyle
I don’t have a problem with spanking kids either

That's fair. My Mum went too far, for sure, so when I heard Lauryn's daughter's live I just thought "Yeah that sounds light"
But that in itself is a problem. To think her narrative "isn't that bad"

Sorry to hear, senseless beating will never be okay.
If you don't wanna beat ya kids that's fine. However if it leads to them becoming spoiled and/or not worried about repercussions for their behavior or actions, don't be surprised if they end up getting their ass beat by someone in the streets cause they tried the wrong person.

Yeah I truly get that. I get Lauryn, being a single Mother of 4 with a lot of aggression towards her circumstance, turning to this form of punishment. But Lauryn got way too creative with it, as most Black Mothers do, it's inventive punishment and borders psychological ("go pick which item I should discipline you with")
I could not do that to my child. I'd probably end up crying with them

Would you hypothetically physically discipline your children by the way?
