I’ve always felt creatively was the idea of taking from multiple influences and combing them into one.

Look at Michael jackson and thriller. He was influenced by all types of music and took parts of all of them and made the greatest pop/funk album of all time..

The problem with a lot of rappers (especially producers) is that they don’t have a diverse music taste like rap producers of the past and only draw influence from 1 type of music.

We went from producers composing stuff like PYT from scratch to throwing drum patterns over looperman melodies

I used Keith Richards and D’angelo and Kendrick as examples in OP as well

I just went into more details with Kanye because it’s easier to showcase where his creativity draws from and this is a Kanye site.

I don’t see them as creative. It doesn’t take much to take something that already exists and re hash it.

So then you don’t see Kanye as creative either. It’s the exact same.

I feel like if someone was to be original, it'll always come from a bunch of influences at first. For someone like Cudi, he's really original, but at the beginning, his sound was pretty influenced by Ye, OutKast, Neptunes, MGMT, Ratatat, and whole bunch of weird music. MOTM1 was his first huge step to sounding original. MOTM2 is where he master it

  • Uhoh

Late reg took portishead and made something new

Born sinner doesnt bring anything new just a cheap imitation thats the difference

And that my friend is an example of how to properly “copy” something VS how to not

''So for those aspiring creatives wether it be music or film. Find inspirations outside of your genre, copy it and then alter it to make it fit in the genre you’re in.''

that goes against the whole point of being creative.

    Lmao tf is looperman

There is times tho when it works.
Kendrick Lamar “feel” for example. That beat was created from an already made loop. And I believe also Kanye’s real friends

Somewhat I definitely think he’s creative but he’s forced to tone it down in order to sell his ideas.

The point of the thread is where those great ideas usually stems from

    Oh damn I wouldn’t know

But most people usually take inspiration from multiple sources or they just come up with things from thin air lol

No it doesn’t as I’ve mentioned it takes creativity to be able to hear something in a rock genre and envision it in a rap genre.

You have to use creativity to alter it....MBDTF having guitar solos in the grand scheme of things isn’t anything new.....but it was creative af to use it in RAP

  • this why Pharrell the goat, last NERD album is basically a punk album but with all the modern trap sounds, rollinem 7s is like some bebop s*** but with 808s, he managed to turn a 6/8 waltz type s*** into a banger on momma hit a lick too. He fuses different sounds we're familiar with and creates something new

So who do you see as creative?

Idk most creatives are long dead. People like to label people creative when they push their influences, but people are scared to make something new.

I think he considers “creative” as something literally brand new that someone made from nothing which is stupid but whatever his wrong opinion I guess

No because its hard to be creative when everything seems to be done already. Thats why in modern times rehashing ideas is deemed creative I’m waiting on someone to something crazy and new.

They said this all the time
New ideas can still exist and there’s been plenty

I see creatives as looking ahead of their times. Simple evolution is natural, but people who look into the future and innovate are true creatives.
