I have a few recs for you fam
since I'm taking a break from anime and popular shounen manga I got a little bit deeper into asano's work
I dont remember if I've posted any of these before but if I have pls dont mind me cause it took me awhile to get in that headspace
myanimelist.net/manga/104272/Reiraku
myanimelist.net/manga/3614/Subarashii_Sekai
myanimelist.net/manga/17353/Umibe_no_Onnanoko
myanimelist.net/manga/3731/Solanin
all of the above are very subtle yet profound pieces of literature that anyone can get lost in while enjoying a cold drink. I'm not going to say too much about them either cause I believe they speak for themselves plus they're short stories so there's little room for spoiler-free discussion

Ohhh I’ve known about solanin for a while but the other ones look good
Currently still reading binbougami (I read manga at a slow pace sometimes lol) but I think I’m gonna start umibe and read them at the same time

yeah I'm slow too that's why I love short manga lol
I just searched binbougami and it sounds like some lighthearted reverse death note type of stuff
Asano really has his distinct style. I gotta start this this week
I'm 90% convinced (although it's not confirmed) that Reiraku is his autobiography

Binbougami is a really funny comedy lol but it has substance to it to with the themes and lessons the MC learns

Finished this masterpiece, what a ride
One of the best drawn manga ive ever read, but its inoue so what was i expecting. Movement is presented so well that you can almost feel the weight of the characters pushing eachother, jumping, running and so on. Paneling makes the games flow so clearly in the head and it leaves nothing to interpretation, feels like reading anime as stupid as it sounds.
Hanamichi truly is one of the goat protagonists, and is in a way the essence of the manga. Man joins the basketball club just to get some p**** and ends up enamoured with the game and it happens without you even realizing it. Such a natural character progression is rare and its truly felt, especially since both the characters and the reader go from making fun of him to admiring and feeling inspired by him. The side characters are all impactful to the story, with nobody really being left behind, some unexpectedly being protagonists of quite important scenes. Rukawa of course is the most important to the story because of his rivalry with sakuragi, which is one of my favorite parts of the manga especially for one reason that i cant talk about cause of spoilers.
All the games are intense, unpredictable and evoke the same feelings a real basketball game would. I tend to try and predict story bits but with slam dunk i never could predict the winner and it made me so happy. This is especially cause not only the protagonist isnt at all even in the conversation of the best players in the manga, but the team is also full of nobodies that the big players don't even know, and in fact shohoku doesnt always win, far from it, they're not the usual underdog that beats all the odds and wins every time, and that's great because it makes the wins important and deservedand rather than just another step into a predictable ending. They're never truly respected, even after reaching important goals, being treated at times even as enemies, so the reader feels intimately close to the team and genuinely roots for them.
Im not gonna talk about anything towards the ending cause its too good to even briefly spoil so yeah
All in all as a fan of the sport its become easily one of my favorite manga of all time and its something that will be with me for the rest of my life, but im sure even non basketball fans will come to love it, as the story's biggest strength is easily the passion for basketball that all the characters, but most importantly the author, and its quite infective as the series is filled to the brim with it, from the first to the last panel.
Took me a while to read it but last volume came out last week and i had to experience it in physical form cause the art is too damn good
the goat inoue !
hope he's been keeping his health in check since the recent passing of miura. would be a shame to lose another talent
I know right. That's why I felt I had to share this with you
Good looks. I’ll post some umibe panels as I go along
damn didnt know there was a book sxn on here
Yeah it’s kinda quiet in the thread. Only a few of us from anime thread post here
really need to catch up on jjk from where the anime left off been hearing things got spicy
it's going to be on a hiatus since next week so now is the perfect time for some catching up
I hate the fact that i can’t remember s*** anymore, i’ve read so many manga but the more time that passes the more i forget, it’s like i never read them at all
might post in here from time to time i be forgetting that theres a separate thread from the anime thread but ive been getting a lot more into manga lately and looking for s*** to read
currently these are the series im reading and caught up on:
Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction
Grand Blue
Houseki no Kuni
HxH
JJK
OPM
Vinland Saga
Yotsuba (caught up yesterday, feeling kinda empty now)
as for what ill start next been thinking of starting Slam Dunk, or resuming 20th Century Boys since i paused after 1 volume. Dandadan seems cool too but idk if i wanna invest time into a weekly series thats still unproven, usually i fall off of those quick once im caught up
the goat inoue !

Yeah hope he's fine, he's around miura's age too. I also hope he'll keep working on real, writer's block can be a b****

this happened to me a lot too
and I want to let u know it's not your fault
when you're speed-reading or when you read a manga that didnt leave its mark on you or inspired/influenced you in any way then it's only natural for it to end up in your mental recycle bin
the only way to counter this is to read less series on a schedule......that can be done by reading weekly releases or having a specific time in your day/week where you go into reading mode instead of reading impulsively
sorry for the tldr im just trying to help
