I read the first 2 volumes but the anime kinda ruined it for me so I dunno if I wanna keep reading
but I do recognize it's the most influential manga in the supernatural shonen category tho....and in general too to some extent, it's def up there with jojo, dragon ball and berserk innovation wise

plan to watch the anime after i finish the manga, heard neither of the anime are great tho and i don’t think either of them have adapted the true ending of the series yet.
as far as the manga tho, it’s really nice. Nothing crazy but yeah, definitely got those classic shonen vibes that just hit different every once in a while.

The first volumes until shaman fight can be kinda slow cause the characters are being introduced (although i still think the first part has its charm) but it gets top tier as soon as the tournament starts. Im reading it too and yeah the mix of takei's immaculate art and the great characters are a wonder and the fights are all good. I think it influenced nothing as it takes a bit from a lot of shonen but its nature and philosphy is very original and it shows

These are pretty well known series, so sorry about that. But rightfully so. I think they are good beginner series
Shounen (intended for boys):
One Piece (if you like pirates, world building, and adventure. Really really popular )
Hunter x Hunter (if you like world building and action. Currently on hiatus)
My Hero Academia (if you like superheroes and with a school backdrop. Currently a real popular series)
Bleach (if you like supernatural stuff like spirits. Finished)
Death Note (if you like psychological warfare while rooting for the bad guy. Finished)
Bakuman (if you want a slice of life story about two people who make mangas. Finished)
Seinen (aimed at young adult men):
Akira (if you like cyberpunk and light fantasy elements and a series that influenced ones after it. Classic)
Kingdom (if you like war, politics, and slightly graphic violence)
Berserk (if you like more than slightly graphic violence, dark fantasy, and beautiful art. Classic. Ended abruptly months ago after author died)
Attack on Titan (if you like a fantasy story with easter eggs set up years in advance and also feel like you're reading a Shonen. Finished earlier this year)
One Punch Man (occasional comedy, great art, and superheroes. Basically is a redrawn webcomic because the author can't draw for s***)

Man I ain't joking. He's a great author but drawing isn't his forte. He's probably gotten slightly better over time though. Here's an example. Left is the author, right is the manga artist redraw:
