5-7 is a pretty huge change still

I just looked at all of the new albums released in 2025 that went #1.

There were 20 new albums total, and I used the SEA units of each album’s first week at number one to find what the average number of SEA units was for a new album released in 2025.

    The average was 133K.

With that being said, if what @threetwentysix is saying is true that this will only lead to about a 30% increase of first week streaming sales across the board, then this won’t really have a major effect on anyone but the huge artists (for example, Life of a Showgirl debuted with 522K streaming units, would’ve now debuted with around 675K streaming if released in 2026)

Yeah I was thinking people like Taylor, K-Pop people I don’t know, Beyonce, Drake, Morgan Wallen will be the biggest beneficiaries from this

Not sure why they need a boost so bad tho, do something for the smaller artists so they can actually eat

  • Dec 16, 2025

If you’re someone like 21 Savage who’s new album is about to do 50K first week, this rule change wouldn’t have gotten you past 75K

Just so it looks like the industry is healthier if the bigger artists are doing more numbers. It’s all smoke and mirrors

Really a great reminder on how pointless those numbers truly are for listeners and fans lol

Really the main beneficiaries are label execs who can now show “higher numbers = more better” on their internal slides etc and pretend the industry is on some type of rise

I usually give MOST albums 1 listen all the way through

If I feel like coming back to it, that usually means its good

It would be even better if Billboard just completely shut down forever and we never tracked how well music are streaming.

Billboard has purposely caused mentally ill stans, deaths, lying about J Cole being part of the BIG 3, narcissistic artists, addiction, gambling, terrorism, ruining radio with replays of awful music, unauthentic hits, Slime You Out going #1, Dance Monkey only exists because of them, made Tyler the Creator gay, made Lil Nas X gay, made Boosie Badazz gay, @thegreatdivine threads, creating dangerous cults, false narrative of USA stats weighs higher than global stats and made fans delusionally believe higher numbers on Billboard equals good quality music.

Billboard has caused more harm than good for artists and music listeners

I wonder what effect this is gonna have on albums. Will they get even longer now that less streams = more numbers, or will artists no longer feel the need to pad out their projects with as many tracks as possible?

    ICEMAN, 25 tracks coming soon

  • Dec 16, 2025

This topic needs to be pinned , because next year people will act like they don’t know why sales are higher lol.

Physical Media will always be the King. You own the record or the movie due to it standing the test of time, not because it’s hot atm smhhhh

In 2025 with all the insider info we’ve learned about streaming the past few years yall still believe artists are winning off of streams and not Lucian Grange- Universal music?

Artist recieve plaques and CENTS on the dollar for the billions of streams they generate lol
