On god after a complete year of meditation i can say that my mental faculties are stronger than ever before.

im not like enlightened or anything like that but anxiety is eradicated, i havent been overwhelmed at all with anything since 2020. its like i have some type of rolodex in my brain and can see issues clearly and what i can do to solve them. And i guess that practicality gets people worked up when issues arise cause they think im just brushing s*** off. Like nah im just not in my feelings and seeing reality for what it is bruh smmhh

No where near your levels of a year but most I did was like 4 weeks of constant meditation every day. I legit felt like a new person. It's like I was viewing myself from a third person perspective at times. Just in a complete mindful state.

The Sam Harris Waking Up app is amazing. Gonna start doing the daily meditation again.

Fr. Before my current job, I was crazy consistent in 2015 where I would mostly do on the spot meditations and more dynamic meditations. So I would tap into the mindfulness space when doing daily s*** like walking down the street or driving. I still feel the benefits of that to this day. If I ever get overwhelmed, I will just pause and marvel at the wonders of everything outside of my consciousness and the minuscule nature of my place within everything that is exterior and position myself as a dispassionate observer who is lucky enough to explore this world.

Actually, this is a testimonial to those wondering on the benefits of getting the meditation bug ^^^ years later, I still feel the benefits just from being consistent for a few months in one period of my life. I will still tap into it when washing up or eating a piece of chocolate, but I really need to sit and be at one with the world again like back then. Longest I ever did was 40 mins and it was beautiful. You get to a point where your breath is just one feature of an endless landscape and you feel your β€˜self’ is irrelevant.

Sounds pretentious asl but this is truly how it feels.

    its cool seeing different perspectives.

when i tap into the "now", for me i feel as though my consciousness is just as fundamental as any other part of the puzzle.

It only sounds pretentious to ppl who haven’t experienced it fr cause its facts. And what the user above me said as well about being a piece of the puzzle.

Thats why i started doing nighttime meditation. All the sounds of the night feel like they bleed into my being. I think its what the buddhist thing meant about all things being empty/boundless, everything becomes one thing. The crickets arent different from my breathing and my breathing is the same as the room temp, room temp is the same as the wind etc. and its all is a product of consciousness. its straight up magic

    exactly.

there exists only a single thing in the entire universe and that is the universe.

identifying with the idea of separation is just ego. the idea there's a boundary between the self from the rest of reality, and even other selves. that you are a name, a face, a location in space + time, a set of ideals + beliefs.

when you meditate and embody the present, what you're experiencing is yourself sans ego. the crickets, the wind, etc, is all you. because its all one thing.

I'm about to finish reading Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana, which is about Vipassana meditation.

Really has gotten me excited to try meditation. My mind is way too overactive and cluttered so I need to try and slow down and be more aware of things.

Nice. This book is a really good start. He breaks it down so well.

I've been meditating consistently since like 2016/2017. It will definitely transform your life.

If you're just starting out though, don't go into it expecting all these instant changes and benefits. Don't expect anything at all. Just do it everyday as a way to slow down for a few minutes
