    AKA SB

Damn where did FH5 and MHR go wrong for you?

Forza Horizon 5 is fine, its not bad. But it feels really bland & "empty" in a way. Forza Horizon 3 & 4 are amazing and some of the best racing games of all time, but FH5 felt like "nothing". And it has way too much dumb busy work & "achievement" lists. Great location tho and i love the track builder.

    And to Monster Hunter Rise...

    LONG READ

As a long time fan of Monster Hunter since the psp and the op of the MH General Thread - its a mediocre game in its base. The dlc expansion is amazing & a genuinely great experience tho (although it did not fix the base game, it basically seperated itself).

But the base game is missing a lot compared to literally every other MH title, the game is way casualised & less challenging for the first time in MH history, the title was rushed and missed basic features & normaties for months which is also the first time ever in a MH title & it also felt like mostly a step backwards compared to World (which is a top 10 game of all time for me & Monster Hunter in general is a top 10 game series for me) with how the monsters don't feel like "actual animals" & the zones arent as in depth as like "real areas" which was a huge upgrade & amazing achievement of World. Rise actually feels the most "video gamey" to me out of all the modern monster hunters from 4 to now.

Oh and although its not really that bad, but R went crazy with the cosmetic microtransactions - which again is a MH first. They always had some here and there since 3ds era but it was nowhere near as expansive and most of them you could still earn in the actual game - unlike R.

I go even deeper on it in the main MH General thread if you want to read my thoughs in depth, its about in the middle of the thread pages iirc. Such as R being the first title to have BABY VERSIONS OF MONSTERS BUT NEVER HAS ITS ADULT VERSION WHICH IS JUST BAFFLING TO ME AND THEY PUMPED FAKE SOME OTHER MONSTERS DURING MARKETING, AGAIN ALL A SERIES FIRST

But yeah, MHR base game is mediocre, started up new bad practices, barebones compared to any other modern MH game & felt like a step back in many regards from gameplay to the feel of it.

I DO think tho MHR is actually ironically enough the most friendly and probably the best title to start out with as a newcommer to the series tho, with MHW being #2. Its the easiest to pick up and play while also the easiest to get a grasp on things by its dumbing down which will still get you at least semi familiar for the systems that are more fleshed in other titles.

But yeah, I hope Rise is not the future and it will break my heart. Hopefully Wilds follows World which it seems like it is.

And as a bonus: my top 3 favs are MH World > Monster Hunter Generations > Monster Hunter 3

And Rise is def my least favorite and the only MH title I dont think fondly of.

MHR has an amazing expansion tho. So at least it made up for its shortcomings to some degree.

Oh yeah biomutant and deathloop both disappointed me too. Actually Dark Souls 2 remastered SOTFS disappointed me too cuz that s*** is worse than the original

I have not played the OG DS2 I started with BB (Ive played them all now tho besides Demons Souls since i dont have a ps5, i only played a bit of it n beat the tower knight boss at a friends house on theirs), but DS2 although it is def the worst out of the series - i dont think its as bad as some make it out to be and imo it actually has some amazing moments & systems of the whole series. Such as the reveal of the dragon place with all the bridges that have all the wyverns flying in the sky. The underground magic place. Or the sinking city bathed in sunlight (the place where the Ornstein follower is). And the city builder-like system of Majula which should be used more in these games and would bring a bit more "life" and cancel out some of the "loneliness" some people complain about.

Like it would be awesome in Elden Ring 2 that the Hub is a f***ed up town that has importance that is physically in the real game world. And throughout the game through main and side quests you can help people there, get new characters there, unlock/fix up some of the buildings/things there & unlock other systems like a blacksmith etc. there.

I think the criticisms for DS2 is over blown due to a lot of people not using the stats right. Just because theres new stats and its different doesnt mean its bad. Its fine as long as you pay attention. The dual wield weapons are dope and very indepth even moreso than Elden Ring still, and a lot of the special moves on weapons are really cool, creative and sometimes genuinely unique. And the DLCs have some of the best areas in Souls as well. DS2 also has some good memorable characters in it and its general cool NG+ changes is really dope which is still unique to it outside of AC6 which should def also be more of a thing in their games.

The only criticism i fully agree with is the gank bosses and how there is too many of them. The levels i only halfway agree - yeah there are some bad levels/parts of levels but theres also some really really good ones in the base and expansions.

It is the "worst" of the series/extended-universe, but its not terrible imo. Its fine with some really good moments and systems here and there.

The hate is way overblown to me.

pokemon sword/shield was so f***ing bad I couldnt believe how awful pokemon got. I just started black and its crazy how much better it is

elden ring gameboy demake blew me away, actually really well executed

ghost of tshushima I knew would be good but I didnt expect it be top 10 level of all time for me

hades I also didnt expect to sink so much time into

Days Gone and Judgement (2019) really blew me away, both are probably some of my favorite games of the past decade. Tbh I enjoyed Judgement more than any Yakuza game that I've played which is saying something cause I'm a big fan of the series. Days Gone looked like a generic TLOU ripoff at first but the voice acting, presentation and especially the gameplay really sets it apart from other games in the genre.

Plus Cyberpunk, BF2042, Starfield. F*** gaming. The soul has been taken out of it. Games from a decade ago like Skyrim and Arkham are better than the slop they out out now smh

You’re speaking my language my boy I love DS2 OG. So many improvements and innovations over DS1, and the variety of levels was insane coming from DS1. So many moments like you said, even near the beginning the Heide coast is stunning to look at, a whole pirate cove, and Drangleic as a reincarnation of Anor Londo. I also loved the idea of a recurring boss that “chases” you throughout the game with the Pursuer.

They def gotta bring back that majula magic. Would love to see something like you said with a town-building esque situation, plus I feel like characters in DS2 didn’t all get terrible endings.

SOTFS added unnecessary ganks that ruined it for me, when it already felt like it had plenty of ganks, plus other questionable enemy placements for the sake of being unfairly difficult.

Man dying light 1 was one of my favorite games of all time. Exploration was fun and it felt like Skyrim where there was always some interesting point of interest to see or a story told through the environment.

Meanwhile Dying Light 2 had such bland exploration I rarely felt an “oh s*** what’s that!” type moment. Like the city feels copy pasted with just tall buildings, and once you had the glider parkour barely mattered you just fly all over.

    Most disappointing definitely Halo Infinite

Surprising probably how crazy of a turnaround cyberpunk had

  • Dec 20, 2023

Most disappointing for me was RE3 Remake, 2 remake still probably one of my fav games oat so 3 being as ass as it is makes me hella upset. nemesis barley chasing you around was such a fold.

Surprising: Re 4 remake, game is not really scary compared to 2 or even 3 remake but damn that s*** is mad fun. I give it surprising simply because 4 was the one that needed a remake the least out tank era games.

Why do you think people hate it

Ppl waited 10+ years for it, when it came out the game was insanely easy with not much post game content, and no FF characters which even ill admit was pretty lame. Story is also mid but imo the only KH with a decent story was chain of memories

With remind and all the other Free DLC they added tho i think gameplay wise it's just as good as 2 and even better in some ways.

      never played it on release

when this edition came out I read on the internet that this still runs like crap like it was on the xbox one/ps4. This edition was just released on game pass and after I IMMEDIATELY changed the AWFUL quality mode to RT-performance and it actually runs great and it's the first time in years that this makes me play the game again

What was disappointing about Heat? Played a bit and it was solid. Plus people seem to like it

don't really hype or set expectations for games anymore but bf 2042 was shocking. such a layup and they completely f***ed it.
