Forza Horizon 5 is fine, its not bad. But it feels really bland & "empty" in a way. Forza Horizon 3 & 4 are amazing and some of the best racing games of all time, but FH5 felt like "nothing". And it has way too much dumb busy work & "achievement" lists. Great location tho and i love the track builder.

    And to Monster Hunter Rise...

    LONG READ

As a long time fan of Monster Hunter since the psp and the op of the MH General Thread - its a mediocre game in its base. The dlc expansion is amazing & a genuinely great experience tho (although it did not fix the base game, it basically seperated itself).

But the base game is missing a lot compared to literally every other MH title, the game is way casualised & less challenging for the first time in MH history, the title was rushed and missed basic features & normaties for months which is also the first time ever in a MH title & it also felt like mostly a step backwards compared to World (which is a top 10 game of all time for me & Monster Hunter in general is a top 10 game series for me) with how the monsters don't feel like "actual animals" & the zones arent as in depth as like "real areas" which was a huge upgrade & amazing achievement of World. Rise actually feels the most "video gamey" to me out of all the modern monster hunters from 4 to now.

Oh and although its not really that bad, but R went crazy with the cosmetic microtransactions - which again is a MH first. They always had some here and there since 3ds era but it was nowhere near as expansive and most of them you could still earn in the actual game - unlike R.

I go even deeper on it in the main MH General thread if you want to read my thoughs in depth, its about in the middle of the thread pages iirc. Such as R being the first title to have BABY VERSIONS OF MONSTERS BUT NEVER HAS ITS ADULT VERSION WHICH IS JUST BAFFLING TO ME AND THEY PUMPED FAKE SOME OTHER MONSTERS DURING MARKETING, AGAIN ALL A SERIES FIRST

But yeah, MHR base game is mediocre, started up new bad practices, barebones compared to any other modern MH game & felt like a step back in many regards from gameplay to the feel of it.

I DO think tho MHR is actually ironically enough the most friendly and probably the best title to start out with as a newcommer to the series tho, with MHW being #2. Its the easiest to pick up and play while also the easiest to get a grasp on things by its dumbing down which will still get you at least semi familiar for the systems that are more fleshed in other titles.

But yeah, I hope Rise is not the future and it will break my heart. Hopefully Wilds follows World which it seems like it is.

And as a bonus: my top 3 favs are MH World > Monster Hunter Generations > Monster Hunter 3

And Rise is def my least favorite and the only MH title I dont think fondly of.

MHR has an amazing expansion tho. So at least it made up for its shortcomings to some degree.

I forgot to mention the 3 things i do like about MHR outside of its expansion is having a mount which is a series first, having AI character help in fights which is also a series first - and having way more combos to do with your weapons.

Those three are genuinely (and only imo) great upgrades/changes that should continue in the series gojng forward & seems like at least with mounts they are.

I also enjoyed the tower defense additional game mode, although i dont expect it to continue in the series and I wouldn't trip if it doesnt. Its a cool & fun unique identity of MHR tho.

Starfield has to be the most boring nothing game ever. Whoever made this needs to see a therapist and explore joy in their life.

Farthest frontier is an alpha game and I surprisingly put 80 hours into it. Just all around great fun which still needs a little balancing around gold.
