Artists need to be compensated for their work but I sort of agree for a museum archive type standpoint
Maybe if music worked like paintings and they just sold the rights per album like they do with paintings
I wanna support creators so no
creators would still be supported. authors are still supported even though libraries exist

That sounds like an approach that would need to be built from the ground up, which might not be in these label owners' best interests unfortunately

if anyone that would have the infrastructure/power to create a digital music public library its the government. especially if its ran by people who care
Back in the day people used to loan CDs from the library
im just saying do this but digitally and also allow people to upload their own music for free without all the bs from private companies
To be fair this already exists with an actual library card lol
I agree it should be free for digital streaming, and artists should be making money off merch, physicals, and tours.
It’s a business
Give me a reason a label should opt to lose out on revenue and put the music up for free
They could just not exist

I still do, and rip the contents sometimes but as not as much as when I was a kid
I borrow vinyl records probably weekly too

You can do that on Bandcamp
Where’s the nuance and critical thinking oh pee
its all in the thread in you end doe

I did mention it but in my state (or at least county) they already have had this for years

damn people are able to upload their music on library streaming services?
You can do that on Bandcamp
bandcamp is also a private company with no promise of surviving in this capitalist society

I just don’t think it could ever work (even though I like the idea of it)
End of the day there are so many roadblocks and barriers which under their own inspection would lead to larger discussions. We live in a world where money and making money is almost essential to everything
You can do that on Bandcamp
SoundCloud too is another excellent example there have been so many great and interesting scenes and microcosms directly from there
I just don’t think it could ever work (even though I like the idea of it)

maybe those larger discussions are the ones we need to have

Sure but then then what you're proposing would require a radically different society which would also mean very different art being made so its hard to imagine
I don't necessarily disagree
