Veteran journalist Dream Hampton, who carries much fan trust in the rap world, echoed the allegations and said Jay Electronica was a reliable source and that she had personally heard reference tapes for six of the album's songs. "I think Jay writes what he believes," she wrote. "Nas' N----r album was largely written by Stic of dead prez and Jay Electronica."
“The day Jay called me at work to tell me he was ghostwriting for Nas was a hard day for me. On one hand, I was happy that a friend of mine that seemingly no one cared an iota for a year or two prior was quickly ascending through the ranks of hip hop as a voice to pay attention to and a career in the making to watch.
Update: Stic.man commented on his work with Nas via Facebook, “As far as the rumors about myself and jay electronika ghost writing for Nas, let me say this. Nas is one of the if not the most prolific original lyricist to EVER do it. My contributions to his album was a collaboration and an honor and under his direction of what he wanted to convey and say. Haters cant discredit that man’s genuis. Nas is the Don.”
He later elaborated, saying he was “just a white belt that answered the call for a session with a master of the craft. And I assisted where it was requested with ideas, beats and some writing.”
let ghoma down
Lmao quentin LITERALLY SAID HE WROTE FOR NAS
Cut the sample bs
the imaginary sample on a song 😭😭
Hip-hop heads are some naive mfs man
It takes a village to make great songs always has and always will, most studio sessions are a communal experience
The idea of a rapper sitting in his bed rooms writing raps in his notepad is a hs kid’s imagination
been saying this. these people have no clue what happens in studio sessions

I was making music when I was like 14 with 2 others and we’d all help eachother with lines and how to end verses and s*** before even knowing how music worked. Its just natural in a creative space
the imaginary sample on a song 😭😭
Said he wrote even more for Nas but they only released The Pressure

No one is debating that kind of collaboration. My point is that no one is writing whole songs for Nas, and then Nas is turning up and reciting someone’s rhymes, he’s not Drake ffs

Jay Elec disagrees
this generation of rapper often say they've proved their worth and now that they have to focus on other business ventures they have to let younger rappers help them. snoop said that iirc

Cause Snoop had writers since forever

Yeah but still it’s common for them to switch later in their career like nas or ice cube i think it was that talked about it too
The Quintin miller thing was debunked since it was just a sample of his voice on a song (can’t remember the song) but that’s why his name was in the credits. As for jay elec, no one’s ever heard these reference tracks (since they probably don’t exist). And AI is so good now that it would be easy to fake them. No ones writing for Nas. Hypothetically speaking though even if they did this man write Illmatic ffs
It probably was more than just the sample, check the Vlad interview on this page. But honestly it doesnt matter at all
Said he wrote even more for Nas but they only released The Pressure
Well he didn't say he wrote for him. He said they collaborated. That might have been ideas for flows/cadences or anything really. It really doesn't matter tgough. Music is collaborative
