brother there were multiple parts in the 3 hours where his admiration of her crossed a coworker or spend 30 days with someone. where he was protecting her. Yes partially because he saw himself in her but also because anyone you spend 30 days with before they go to prison. Where you dont view them as evil. Is different from the standard friendship. There is a difference between being friends with someone and living with them. then as someone who has had a friend who went to jail for a little that feeling of not only being a way from them but the state keeping them away from their family, kids, people they care about. We arent saying he is in love. We arent saying he is trying to f\*\*\*.

None of what you said suggests he wants to f\*\*\*

I nor anyone else in the entire thread or the internet are saying Nathan wants to f\*\*\*. Rather saying the framing of certain moments of the documentary made it seem like he had a crush on her beyond a friendship level. As if her charm itself was working on him and she was manipulating him with that charm. To protect her. To hear her side. To recongnize that she was being taken advantage of by Billy and Salwi or whatever his name was. That she herself was overall innocent, ditzy, patsy, fall person . That she had a code of not wanting to receive the money. That she in her heart truly wanted to better society, didnt care about money or fame, was afraid of prison and in some ways undeserving of serving the crimes for the men she surrounded herself with . NOT F\*\*\*. NOT ENTIRELY SEXUAL. But intimacy yes. That is what i mean by the kiss like awkward moment or feeling of wanting to at least hug someone going to prison. Amanda Seyfried said she felt like a undercover cop. Nathan wasnt that separated he spent 34 days in a home with Elizabeth, Billy and her kids. He noticed how Billy was controlling, micromanaging, didnt truly care about her. Yes part of it is pity but part of it is wanting to treat someone that society ( men she has dealt with ) preyed on. For them she was prey to manipulate or use. She was the face of the product. A nerdy looking white woman. If the indian man himself presented theranos he would be questioned more not on the front of magazines and everyone so fascinated with. Not the subject of a hulu show , internet fandom, twitter following. GOING INTO THE MOVIE NO ONE COULD TELL YOU THE INDIAN MANS NAME. People didnt know Billy existed like that unless they were addicts to this case. She is the main character. But behind that main character (whether that main character is a creation she created to cope with reality or its really her) is a human being. Nathan cares about that human being on a level deeper than "I am just making a movie making money" or more than his normal skits and schemes on a standard episode that is all we are saying

I dont really process someone seeing this entire movie and not in anyway recongnizing
As an adult tension can exist. You can have an admiration for soemone you are living with. You can and naturally on a human level grow to understand them more and at times of third wheeling see things in their relationship that they just accept that you point out.. Whether they are "madly in love with each other " or its a lie where they both accept it because the truth is they like every human in existence dont truly want to be alone

This film is one big magic trick

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

I think there is some level of intimacy in friendships especially a friend with children who you live with for 30 days before they go to prison for the first time

that is just me though. like you cant separate art or product from biologically as a human being seeing someone for who they are. You cant live with someone before the darkest part of their life and they requested you live with them and record their life. Again which she really didn't benefit from the depiction or financially. At the root of it she wanted just one person other than Billy who is clearly manipulative to see her humanity. Out of the audience who have seen the movie and critics many are saying "yeah she is a manipulative liar villain exactly who I thought she was before walking into this documentary based on reading the new york times article, watching a hulu show that made her cry, seeing the tweets not even written by her.

its abundantly clear that part of her knows she is in too deep with billy she has kids with him. He rich but still kind of at her lowest took advantage of her desire to not be alone . Just as he is somewhat using her for theranos 2 yet again she is the face not him because he knows he would be dissected adn he an angry boy off coke. NATHAN does not wish to simply be another man that uses her in some way shape or form. I don't really process anyone who thinks she is such a master manipulator and liar that she reached out to nathan for this documentary as a get money scheme while not negotiating for the money herself rather letting a cokehead boyfriend do it then pretending she didn't know at all. Then in the end he withdraws the money that her legal case and debt so desperately needs. All while trying to fund a sequel to what got her there. Like at a certain point it doesn't make sense if everything she isnt doing is genuine

Wouldnt we know if she negotiated money for herself? It is hard to read everything because there is so much manipulation. I can see her also having a soft spot for Nathan, I personally never saw her truly be real with him though. She knows for a fact the product didn’t work and they lied about their results. She is not a genuine person in the least. Even if she has been abused by men her whole life, her dad was the executive of the biggest fraud company, and she was propelled into this Steve Jobs change the world figure at 18\. Idk, I would believe more there was intimacy there if she once showed disdain for her husband. Or really showed a genuine moment with Nathan. It all felt off. I don’t think Nathan felt comfortable one time during his 30 day stay. It’s all confusing. I think maybe he went on the opposite trajectory Amanda went on, where she felt guilty/sympathetic when watching the 30 days and then as time went on got frustrated because it was all a lie.

im going to watch it again next weekend, I might interpret it all different. He could have possibly felt emotions/protective of her. I can’t really tell.

Not spoilering all of this because some of this is the plot of reality. yes she knows it didnt work but she was a college dropout. If you met a college dropout why are you choosing to place so much belief into them without proof? Genuine question she was the face of Theranos but was she the brain and knowing all of the information and openly told that there was that much error rate. I would have to fully know the case.

Just because her dad lead Enron doesnt mean she is not at all genuine and is a scammer just like him. She is definitely aware of what fraud is and knows she is imperfect but not genuine at all and evil human being ? If you walk away from this documentary simply viewing her as the greatest liar ever. most manipulative human being and evil. Then what did you walk into the movie thinking of her

Then if nothing changed for you with this documentary besides Billy ran the twitter and asked for money can you truly say it was an effective documentary if that is you rain takeway?

What was your takeway from this documentary of a new perspective or something you did not know from reading articles going into it?

  • I feel for some this documentary is just preaching to the choir of what you thought of Elizabeth Holmes going into the movie. Absolutely nothing changed. No true new information. You look at Elizabeth Holmes as evil as you did going into the movie. You love Nathan and Lance even more. You learned or gained what knowledge from this documentary?

What social commentary did you gain? That people lie? That someone guilty of fraud possibly iied to investors?

That you think potentially Elizabeth Holmes is all a character as the NY Times claims she said and allegedly spends the whole movie saying she never said it but neither NY times or herself has proof of her saying or not saying it. Even though Billy claims they recorded all interactions then says "maybe we should do it with you " early in the movie but Billy likely didnt record or if he did will never release or cant release due to a24 some how owning the content

I dont really care if he is zionist in the case I am there for his art not his morals or character lol. Quentin Tarantino a zionist and I like some of his movies. Its just like that. Unless he is covering the topic specifically I dont fully care.

I mean i watched Who is America ? Sacha baron cohen and it was great. Borat aged terribly though especially with how he presented those people.

People doing a bit of a witch hunt on people and artist beliefs of a serious issue. When politicians control what genuinely happens. Unless someone donating to IDF or Palestine its all literally talk. Talk helps but

like you have people talkinig about this woman like she the joker saying "this was all part of her plan she wanted to be in prison she is playing the long game she just attaches to evil men so we view her as innocent". There is a bit of brain rot going on . Acting like she Ghislaine Maxwell.

I am not saying she is solely a victim of circumstances but she is again the main character people care about. The white woman nerd people funnel their hate into. For many this movie and story is a hate watch. They there to hate on her and laugh at her. In some ways dehumanize her like she is a zoo animal. It gets to a point of very weird.

people posting her high school photos. Doing all this extra s***. She is in prison . She is facing time for her crimes. What else do you want?

Lance Oppenheim just came off primetime which focused on milking predators for ratings, awards and becoming engrossed in it. If what many get from this documentary is just reinforcing their hate of a woman that is already in prison and the fact that she is some master liar what did the documentary accomplish ? If people dont question the documentary itself and the idea that they in fact DID NOT see everything

I mean at one point she said they teamed with John’s Hopkins and were able to figure out how to detect pancreatic cancer in blood, JH said they never worked together. She blatantly lied about her work in the military. She knew they were diluting blood and using old machines.

Most people told her it wouldn’t work, she got one professor to get on board with her and he did bc “he just saw something different in her”. Her dad had connections and it helped get some of the first investors. Then also her husband who was 40 and she was 18 led things early on.

She did convince a jury though that she had no idea about patients being harmed. I can’t tell if she’s just dumb asf or the best con artist ever or both.

It’s funny the device is named Edison. Thomas Edison lied about the light bulb working for 4 years before it did. He paid off journalists with stocks in his company to keep his lie going.

She did a typical Silicon Valley move by having a bunch of hype around a technology that didn’t exist, but the difference is she’s lying about results and harming patients.

If someone comes to you right now with the cure to cancer. You decide not to check any of their sources. Not follow up. You give them the keys to the city. You make them a billionaire. In 2012 mind you the internet fully exist and ways to check all that information. Yes some of that is on her BUT SOME OF THAT IS ON THE COMPANIES THAT CHOOSE TO BELIEVE A RANDOM WHITE WOMAN COLLEGE DROP OUT . I am not going to act like she is the greatest villain and manipulator of all time put to film just because Walgreens and everyone who cosigned her are absolute dumbasses who didnt care until investigative journalism stepped up.

They should have CARED to know that the results were accurate for the PATIENTS. Not just for financial gain but for a product they were putting out in their stores.

I think this documentary again would have added a lot more to it if the patients she affected could confront her as in talk to her in person or Nathan read their thoughts or feelings towards the case. They are who I want to hear from. Not investors. Not chronically online people who hate her. Not even Nathan Fielder. The direct people she affected.

we didnt see so much of the footage that was filmed . Lets assume on average they filmed 3-4 hours of content a day for 34 days thats about 136 hours of content

we saw 3 hours. Unless you are saying a lot of that time they werent filming in the 34 days . The decision of what to use in a 3 hour film what to not use. When to film when to not film. The cut of what was cut. To not make it a mini series. A24 wanting it to make certain returns in a very limited screening that many will watch over cam. All plays into the documentary. This isnt like an investigative journalist documentary. Its a fun one filled with laughs and reflections of who can you believe is telling the truth or not telling the truth.

But again I think if people take away from this is the same thoughts they had when walking in then its less informational documentary and more preaching to the choir, comfort food or grab the pitchforks to sassy tweet online
