If it were up to the AI this movie wouldn’t take any focus away from the real issues at hand but I agree with this movie being a perfect example of people being outraged at something that really doesn’t compare to the bigger issues we face as human beings.
That’s what I was trying to get at. This wouldn’t take attention away of something bigger, but just how easily people got swayed and are fighting trench wars over a movie making a discussion about our society, one we rather not have a discussion about, is eye popping.
I don't think this is a new thing tho. The debate about "shock factor" in art has been going on for a very long time, and arguments involving morality have rarely ever been balanced
It’s a french indie film, and shock is done all the time because they like to incorporate themes without shame or fear of judgement. It’s just done in a manner where we can connect with people on the internet and get to commentating very quickly and loudly.
By having a piece of fiction, you can imply rape with or without the actual scene but that just ruins the experience for viewers because it needs to have weight and a purpose. We know it’s wrong by community And society. Hell, the book Speak was made into a film, as an fYI.
But is it wrong to emulate what is wanted by society, despite the fact there’s no true concept of an age barrier? Or knowing when something can be done and when it can’t when everyone is trying ti fit in? And Society doesn’t try to correct itself?
IF the movie’s purpose was to spark a discussion on the sexualization of children, then it would have worked, but people are taking the side that it’s made for pedos and ruins the message, let alone on the same platform we were suppose to be critiquing.
Even if this movie was animated, the impact isn’t the same without it being Real.
You didn’t answer my question at all.
Would it be appropriate to have a REAL rape scene (not a fake one like in irreversible)?
Are you actually saying that it would ruin the experience because it would be fake?

you're dumb if you think this is the same as a real rape
its good that these images make you uncomfortable and disgusted
you wont forget that feeling and you'll talk about it and it gets light on the issue
triggering our emotional gag reflex is powerful and it will shake the rust off a mind faster than anything

I followed the thread just for this. I was sure it would get here
Could this have been accomplished without using children?
You’re just blinding yourself from reality.
I don't think she's a pedo, I believe she's from the artsy fartsy cloth you know the same artsy people who defend films like "the Serbian film"
Yeah, I believe that's where she's coming from tbh it just doesn't look well lol
so i'm like ok lemme see if this is really bad as it is, i skipped through most of it on netflix and that s*** got the 11 year old twerking?????? WHAT man if i had kids around that age this is the last film i would ever want them to see, who is the target audience for this?
This isn't a kids film.
here's the director and screenwriters interview
yall should see this
@rwina @DonutHole
I figured this what she's going for. The theme and premise she's going for is awesome. It's just not made or done well. All the unnecessary crotch shots and adults being twerked at by 11 year olds is gross. Maybe that's a French/cultural thing.

I'll say to you what I said before , and this is my opinion and I could be wrong

I just feel like that some of these scenes weren't done well. Like the director says she took into account of how a 11 year old could be twerking behind closed doors. Well why not do a music montage of the girl doing all kinds of dances that aren't just sexually suggestive. Other movies have done this before. Its just some of the scenes just seem unrealistic and forced to the point like you said it makes you feel uncomfortable and gross when I don't think she was going for that reaction. I think this even more after watching that interview.
It’s all marketing. If that was the poster they used to promote the movie on Netflix, it would be received completely differently. People have every right to be outrage at the way Netflix initially marketed the movie. But the outrage spilling over to the movie itself, without an overwhelming majority even watching the movie, is straight up bullshit.
You got people itt calling people pedos for watching this. Nigga actually said he read the synopsis and could understand the entire movie just off that. Which he then proceeded to make the wrong assumptions
If you watch the movie and don’t like that is fine, you can critique it. Even if you don’t watch it, just shut the f*** up trying to speaking Matter-of-fact, and sanctimonious about the movie. To the point of condemning and demonizing others. Go play in traffic.

but I truly believe she was going for that direction she wanted to shock the audience, the same way she was shocked when she went to a dance show and saw 11yo twerking almost naked
and this movie released in a perfect time - kids tiktoks right now are filled with other kids twerking in the ground to the sound of WAP
people need to wake up and see how destructive this is to the younger generations

The TikTok thing is another level of crazyness. That needs more regulation, but because it's a stigma that it's a kids app no one really think it's anything more then that. Especially since nobody is highlighting that it's some inappropriate things going on within that app.
How much more destructive is it than when we was growing up(assuming your 25+). When I was growing up there was imo way worst songs out than WAP though. Hell I use to do CDs for people when I was in middle school and was first introduced to slob on my knob, Trina, lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Lil Ru Nasty song, Etc. I grew up on mostly R&B and street rap. I knew these songs existed due to my sister being older and listening to it, but she was in high school.
It seems like the director was going for a coming of age story/rebellious pre-teen, but her understanding of it just didn't come across well. She very well meant to add those scenes to make the viewer feel disgusted, but the interview contradicts this. It seems like she wasn't going for that reaction she wanted the viewer to understand how it is for a 11 year old and how it's tough trying to please their parents culture according to her interview.
People in here really writing paragraphs to defend something that is so easily seen as a terrible way to express the theme of child exploitation...

Fam it’s just the american marketing standards
In the USA, outrage works GREAT so they just go with it
