I dead dont ever go back to this album because of the cover art. they should do the finding forever challenge where ppl would create new better covers for this album

I still wanna give it an fair listen despite its s***ty cover art.

It looks like a typical 2000's indie rap album cover lmao

it looks like common partnered with Nokia and had a copy of finding forever with every new phone model that came out that year. and this is the default background for that model

Finding Forever had the impossible task of following up his masterpiece Be. But instead of trying to top it or repeat the formula, Common treats this project as a fun victory lap. He chooses to remind people he is a master of consistency. This album knows Be was a juggernaut and carries a sense of confidence. From a production angle, this project does not really cover new ground. But, it does offer Common experimenting with his flow. Several songs on here feature him riding the beat more traditionally then he ever has before, departing from his signature “poet flow”. The flows and hooks presented here, tell me that Common was trying to make some of the most assessable music of his career. It features the return of Kanye West, who is now in his Graduation era. It also features a song from one of J Dillas posthumous albums, Featuring Common himself and D’Angelo. The music on here overall is pretty good. There’s nothing that really stands out to me negatively aside from the garbage cover and Kanye’s obnoxious singing vocals on “Southside”. There’s some wonderful moments scattered throughout this album like the wonderful tribute to J Dilla on the last track, but overall it didn’t blow me away or move me like some of his previous work did. And that’s OK. I feel like this time instead of putting unnecessary pressure on himself to deliver, he just took a breath and decided to make some good music.

    Final Score: 7.5/10

Favorite Songs: Start The Show, The People, U Black Maybe & So Far To Go

Least Favorite Songs: Southside & Misunderstood

Personally I think Finding Forever a strong 8

Not as impressive as Be but Ye was still very much in his bag and Common was locked in with his more commercial/consumable rap style. Really can’t think of one song on here that isn’t enjoyable.

One of my fav rap albums from 07

I have it right behind LWFC, Be, and BAA

I love FInding Forever as much as LWFC, Be, ODIAMS, EC, and TD/TB

  • Jan 24, 2022

It's nowhere near Be or Like Water for Chocolate.. it has a few gems but nah bruh, this album is beyond mediocre and trust me I used to be a Common stan.

Be & LWFC are his two classics.

What do you get from an album combining the talent of Common and College Dropout era Kanye West? You get a match made in heaven, and another masterpiece from Common. Within the second that the music begins, the punches are packed and it does not let up until it’s finished. At a brisk 43 minute runtime, this is a shorter, but just as impactful listen as any of Commons other work. If anyone questions Kanye’s position as a top 5 producer, just link them this album. His production is absolutely magnificent here and is a perfect match for Commons great poetic flows and storytelling. From the genius sample chopping on “Testify” to using John Mayer as a repeated sample on “Go!”. This album also includes amazing production from the late Jay Dee and Kareem Riggins that works perfectly alongside Ye’s chipmunk soul. The final song on here produced by them is inspiring and heartwarming. I was so happy to hear Pops give us more spoken wisdom. And Common? Boy hasn’t lost a single step here. Be is everything it should be and so so much more. What else can I say?

    Final Score: 10/10

Favorite Songs: Faithful, Testify, Love Is…

    Least Favorite Songs: N/A
