who cares what they label stuff as on netflix, that’s my point lmaoo
Dave does whatever he wants on there & they gonna rock with it. Don’t take it so serious
Jesus Christ
Is it funny or did he just posterize trans people again
It wasn't his last special tho in 2019 he had a whole bit during Sticks and Stones about this stuff
And sticks and stones a classic
The latest one wasn't
It's that simple
"Just because y'all aren't laughing that doesnt mean the world isn't" no one ITT said no one found him funny just they don't.
The fact you went full defense node and started listing accolades and success like that was the discussion kinda says the actual special isn't great.
s a fan for almost two decades now I loved it. Repeated some things to make his journey more clear. it wasn’t a comedy special. It was him deferring the honor of having his name on theater at his alma mater. He videotapes large portions of his life.
He deferred it because of the trans controversy, so obviously the issue will come back up. Although he didn’t really add anything to it.
Nah, you got s*** twisted cuz you hate watch Chappelle or didn’t watch this.
My long ass post was a rely to this post which 2 people agreed with
“glad people calling him out for not making jokes
"mAstERfuL ComEDiAN"
bro just tells stories lmao”
Dave is in Kanye territory for me he nowhere near where he was and he mostly just rumbles about being conservative now and some good points with a dash of controversy in it
Perfect comparison
They forever top 3 but the new s*** not hitting the same
Ah okay it’s just a speech
Still gonna tap in he a great speaker
The difference between Dave and Kanye is Dave kept doing comedy. He never stopped. Kanye isn't hands on with music, he acts more like a film director. Which is fine but not how he made the music he’s most known for. What I’m saying is Kanye takes shortcuts with his music and Dave never stopped comedy. Stopping the Chappelle show allowed him to do more standup
After doing MBTDF kanye has tried to make every album like a film director instead of a musician imo. Sometimes it’s great like yeezus, recently ones like donda and Ye I didnt like that much. As he grows in stature of business it only gets harder too. Dave wife’s let him go be an artist, Kanye married his wife to become an even bigger star aka a BUSINESS reason.
Perfect comparison
They forever top 3 but the new s*** not hitting the same
And I love the experimental way they're filming s*** now like Kanye release shows and Dave just dropping s*** on IG but they both feel like artist who were at their best before they could just upload whatever.
Dave and Kanye now have the ability to take to us whenever and drop whenever and as a result the material doesnt have the same polish.
It's the over exposure and there's been some stuff I've really loved from modern Ye and Dave that could only be made in the now but it doesn't mean I don't still have criticisms.
Dave Chappelle is slowly becoming the Eminem of comedy
Hate to say and see it.
Kanye is more like it. A legend but not keeping the quality up
I was watching Michael Che on a couple of platforms and seemed like he sided with Jerrod
Dave basically sneak dissed Jerrod and said step your game up bruh bruh (the talent part of his speech )
Grouped him in with F***in high school students
Dave pretty much stole this joke Michael Jackson joke from Jerrod and nobody called him out on it

!https://youtu.be/DhRGt0YuP9cThat’s not a fact. Jerrod gets his whole standup archetype from Dave.
this isn't addressing the video this thread is about
Niggas acting all knowledgeable bout this stuff in the thread yet they're facts are all wrong
The backlash against Dave didn't start with The Closer, it started with the first batch of specials released in 2017. The Closer was the worst special out of the 6 standup specials he released with Netflix but people have been mad at him for 5 years now
& even though he received praise for 8:46 there was a small contingent of people that were let down because he didn't really address anything related to Black Women during that piece.
My Netflix special ranking (in order)
Deep In The Heart
Equanimity
Age Of Spin
Bird Revelation
Sticks & Stones
The Closer
That’s not a fact. Jerrod gets his whole standup archetype from Dave.
!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ywxUJypSK-0nah Jerrod tells a joke about a kid bragging about it in school the same way Dave does in his netflix special, completely different joke from this video
nah Jerrod tells a joke about a kid bragging about it in school the same way Dave does in his netflix special, completely different joke from this video
watched it. Side bar, Jerrod sayin his cousin will work at Wendy’s and he would choose Oprah over his mother …
Jerrod talking about a kid going to school the next day was the end, Dave kept going and had different angle on it. Them both mentioning the school isn’t Dave taking the joke lol. Jerrod stole the setup from 04 and added the bit about God still letting MJ into Heaven.
Dave actually makes a case for MJ being innocent, jerrod doesn’t even tho he says he believes it. And again, dave did the joke first. He put it in a special, as a comedian, he stamped that as his ip

Dave was taking it to people and dropping whenever before the modern streaming industry was even a thing
just watched it
was good
it was an acceptance speech
i’m not sure many ppl itt understood that despite the very obvious intro where that’s stated
still had the jokes
but uh yeah it was kinda like them instagram pieces he put out in recent years

Can you explain where the beef started? I never heard of it till this thread
It’s so bizarre to act like him simply poking the current sacred cow is going to retroactively ruin his legacy as if any normal person who’s not chronically online is aware of this nonsense. The people that go to see him are laughing and he’s still selling out shows. If you’re funny people are laughing. It’s not up to anyone else but the people he’s performing for. His name will outlive all of his critics. In a decade this controversy will seem like a blip in his career. Also to reiterate what others are saying, this isn’t a stand up special. It’s just an acceptance speech essentially.
This wouldn't be such a convoluted subject if ppl just kept the convo at his joke quality and not on his Trans subject matter
Facts over feelings b****es
imma be honest....I love his speeches and all that the first few times he did it, but right now unless its standup, i dont give a s***

The worst thing Chappelle has ever said was supporting “TERFs”. Aside from that, folks are exaggerating

That was clearly a joke. “I’m team terf” wasn’t worded sincerely. I’m pro trans but most non heavily online people don’t even know what terf means and it’s really only some naughty word in certain corners of the internet. He’s certainly not a radical feminist lol. It’s a word that’s lost all meaning.
