The difference between Dave and Kanye is Dave kept doing comedy. He never stopped. Kanye isn't hands on with music, he acts more like a film director. Which is fine but not how he made the music he’s most known for. What I’m saying is Kanye takes shortcuts with his music and Dave never stopped comedy. Stopping the Chappelle show allowed him to do more standup

After doing MBTDF kanye has tried to make every album like a film director instead of a musician imo. Sometimes it’s great like yeezus, recently ones like donda and Ye I didnt like that much. As he grows in stature of business it only gets harder too. Dave wife’s let him go be an artist, Kanye married his wife to become an even bigger star aka a BUSINESS reason.

And I love the experimental way they're filming s*** now like Kanye release shows and Dave just dropping s*** on IG but they both feel like artist who were at their best before they could just upload whatever.

Dave and Kanye now have the ability to take to us whenever and drop whenever and as a result the material doesnt have the same polish.

It's the over exposure and there's been some stuff I've really loved from modern Ye and Dave that could only be made in the now but it doesn't mean I don't still have criticisms.

The backlash against Dave didn't start with The Closer, it started with the first batch of specials released in 2017. The Closer was the worst special out of the 6 standup specials he released with Netflix but people have been mad at him for 5 years now

& even though he received praise for 8:46 there was a small contingent of people that were let down because he didn't really address anything related to Black Women during that piece.

It’s so bizarre to act like him simply poking the current sacred cow is going to retroactively ruin his legacy as if any normal person who’s not chronically online is aware of this nonsense. The people that go to see him are laughing and he’s still selling out shows. If you’re funny people are laughing. It’s not up to anyone else but the people he’s performing for. His name will outlive all of his critics. In a decade this controversy will seem like a blip in his career. Also to reiterate what others are saying, this isn’t a stand up special. It’s just an acceptance speech essentially.
