That was clearly a joke. “I’m team terf” wasn’t worded sincerely. I’m pro trans but most non heavily online people don’t even know what terf means and it’s really only some naughty word in certain corners of the internet. He’s certainly not a radical feminist lol. It’s a word that’s lost all meaning.
What’s the punchline? Seemed to like he was speaking matter a factly and being deadass when he said it

There was no punchline. It was how he inflected the words. It sounded disingenuous like he didn’t know what it actually meant or the implications of it.
Can you explain where the beef started? I never heard of it till this thread
All I know is that in an interview last month Jerrod talked about dave and other things
Here's a snippet
“Chappelle, do you know what comes up when you Google your name, bro? That’s the legacy? Your legacy is a bunch of opinions on trans sh*t? It’s an odd hill to die on.”
imma be honest....I love his speeches and all that the first few times he did it, but right now unless its standup, i dont give a s***
Real
Ppl showing their hand crying about his "team terf" stuff
We talking about whether he washed as a comedian not whether he says stuff that offends you

Michael Che is Jerrod's homeboy. Dave works with Che a ton, and he was at that chappelle summer camp thing during the pandemic. I can imagine it's tough for Che being in the middle of that s***.
In Che's last special, he talked about apologizing for a SNL trans joke because he has LGBTQ friends. One of the reasons Dave deffered the naming of the theater after himself is because of trans jokes. Before he unveiled it'll be called "theater for artistic freedom and expression," he said it'll be called the "jerrod carmichael theater." i thought it was a funny joke and also challenging jerrod to make a better comedy special given what he said before the joke.
So, to use Chappelle's terms, Jerrod has some public tribe choosing to do and chose to go against Dave when asked about it. I can also imagine in Jerrod's position he wouldn't be popular being the gay dude who supports Dave Chappelle. He'd rather talk about getting praise from Quentin and Leo
in all seriousness, Seems like he is going thru a tough time and his movie had a dark subject matter. i skipped thru the gq article so not sure how much his family supports his sexuality. I can imagine thats a rough time for him, if im reading into it correctly. I havent watched his last special or that HBO documentary

yeah i only heard that word from his standup
New special seems to be called “The Lunatic’s Manifesto”
Just came back from seeing him and the opening visual was a Netflix logo and that title

wasn't The Closer supposed to be his last for Netflix?

How was it, I’m seeing him July 14th
Could’ve seen him last night but by the time I found out he was in town it was sold out

I feel your pain fam
Couple months ago he was doing a sub 50 seat tiny club for one of his late night sets (after he'd already done a full set at a big venue abit before) but tickets were like $220, could've been one of them 4 hour set nights

It was pretty good, much better than The Closer imo. He was just getting his jokes off, no serious s*** really. That being said he’s leaning deeper into the whole “punching down” thing and the whole set he was s***ting on groups of people but it was funny as hell.
If you liked Sticks and Stones you’ll like/love this

Those small venue shows are the best man. Always does like 2+ hours

He did say last “for a while”
his definition of “for a while” may be different but I agree it’s pretty early
He probably can’t turn his brain off. I’m not complaining lol.

I went to the taping of thee special in Philly during the Roots Picnic. If y'all don't care about spoilers, I broke down most of what he talked about in this thread: ktt2.com/tuxedo-doom-got-to-see-the-dave-chappelle-netflix-special-live-32550344

sounds like your show had some slightly different material. kinda jealous lol
Something I love about Chappelle
I’ve seen him live ahead of each special he drops (except The Closer) and I swear it’s like live Chappelle and Netflix special Chappelle are two entirely different people. Like the jokes are the same but the way he presents them live it feels like he’s winging it as he goes and is mainly there to chill with us and not workshop jokes or some s***.
But somehow when I watch the specials later on it’s those same exact jokes he got off that I thought he was winging when I saw him in person yet structured into a formal set
Like this stand up s*** is truly in his blood and he truly is a master of his craft, to a fault maybe because he definitely doesn’t try as hard because of it
