Its lowkey always that serious
Even outside of this topic life has taught me this lmao
That whole rich white boy aesthetic he has is cringe too like he’s trying to self aware himself outta the conversation
Its like self awareness/irony is used as a cheat code lol
black gen-z underground fans gotta be the most pathetic group ever. they’ll literally see a suburban white kid performing the most overtly racist stereotypes ever and gas it to high heavens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME
can’t even check them on their behavior cuz all they say is “twin u hatin relax it ain’t that deep”
not just gen-z folks either lmaoo i seen some millennials do it too
Its like self awareness/irony is used as a cheat code lol
i don't even hate Ian but dudes in the Ian thread was defending that s*** heavy "he just being himself" "he found a way to market himself"
like man something just feels off lmao
Listen to the video and judge for yourself
That song in the tweet is a JT song ain't it
there are so many points in rap and larger culture that this can stem from
but keeping it specifically to rap i think the early/mid 2010’s is officially where it became a signifier of being out of touch to criticize certain dudes for not doing traditional rapper things
"The I'm not a rapper / I'm a rock star" era <<<<<<<<
When did caring about things become corny?
For me 2015.
When mumble rap became more than a gimmick and started getting taken seriously, I knew HipHop was on a downward trajectory.
I got called hating, old, loser for simply pointing out that this cannot be a standard of HipHop.
I was told to just “let people enjoy things”.
Yachty is a f***ing moron that needs to shut his mouth
Dude is the most pretentious dumbass I’ve ever seen
The whites love his album tho
That whole rich white boy aesthetic he has is cringe too like he’s trying to self aware himself outta the conversation
It’s funny as satire ngl
I wish the lyrical content reflected it more
YouTube was a complete s*** hole for a minute

Shane Dawson was cringe too with that one character that was basically white Shenehneh/Bon Qui Qui

To be fair, what was the alternative? Kendrick? J. Cole? Big Krit and Isiah were not mainstream friendly
Hio hop has become way too inclusive
This s*** needs to go along with all the clowns who accept it
I feel like this gets said every year and there’s still only ever like 3 white rappers popular at the absolute most
To be fair, what was the alternative? Kendrick? J. Cole? Big Krit and Isiah were not mainstream friendly

All guys who could have fit into the mainstream being realistic but still continued the lineage of innovation/traditional skill/doing new cool s*** but weirdly it didnt really work out like that
There are plenty of other guys im missing

Kendrick that year broke a spotify record with TPAB.
I have people at my uni doing dance choreographies to king kunta and alright.
Big Sean and Drake had huge hits too.
But that was also the year Lifestyle and CoCo came out.
I love thug and he is really talented, I even backed the barter 6 whilst everyone else hated on it, but as long as mumble artist stayed making 10k sales performing at small venues it’s all good, but when they became the face of rap it was over.

Yep
Between Barter 6 and the 2016 freshman class lol
That’s exactly the moment where it feels like the rapper archetype of being able to spit as good as kendrick cole or drake (or even being able to do basic punchlines and metaphors like 2010’s mid wayne at that point) just stopped mattering overnight

And the answer to why this happened is the post above this one lol

2015 had a bunch of artists and albums that weren't just "mumble rap" / "soundcloud rap" tho tbf

Yeah 2015 was the last really good year
It all started with the 2016 xxl freshman class. Yachty saying he don’t like Biggie and Uzi refusing to do that freestyle was the change
