    Chance
    Smino
    Montana of 300
    Robb Banks

All guys who could have fit into the mainstream being realistic but still continued the lineage of innovation/traditional skill/doing new cool s*** but weirdly it didnt really work out like that

There are plenty of other guys im missing

    Vince Staples had Norf Norf
    ALLA dropped
Mick Jenkins was still poppin off the Waters EP
    Robb Banks like you said
Vic Mensa was still poppin off his tape from the year prior etc

What i guess im saying is that all of these guys kinda peaked here outside of Vince when they were on trajectory to be the guys keeping “hip hop” going into the new generation. I agree with you that they were still buzzing in 2015 but all these guys except Vince fizzled out to niche fanbases by 2018-19 because of the 2016 shift in rap’s direction

Yeah 2015 was the last really good year

It all started with the 2016 xxl freshman class. Yachty saying he don’t like Biggie and Uzi refusing to do that freestyle was the change

not clicking that video but that thumbnail is egregrious
And then you have posters on this site basically doing COINTELPRO claiming that IAN has a huge black fanbase and only white people care about this lmao

no nostalgia bullshit I vividly remember how 2015 felt. I was bumping TPAB, IYRTITL, ALLA, Cherry Bomb, Summertime 06, IDLSIDGO, Pilot Talk 3, as well as Barter 6 and DS2 and 56 Nights,

I think I also discovered Little Simz

Idk if you f*** with Da$H and RetcH but they dropped fire in 2015 with Skrewface, 17 More Minutes and Finesse The World too

I'm not arguing with you tbh I'm agreeing with you. I was just adding on to your example list because it's really crazy how the shift just happened when we had all these prospects around lol

Montana of 300 never stood a chance tbh
He was pretty one dimensional plus he was a drill rapper but nobody claimed him in chicago iirc. Not that i care about that, but during those days that was a pretty big deal

It’s just wild how quick the change happened

2015 had all those albums then at the flip of a switch, kids didn’t want to hear that kinda rap anymore

I remember it vividly too. First year university and hadn’t made friends up till that point, that’s when I fully dived deep into rap and listened to all the legends from the 80’s onwards.

I remember the morning iyrtitl dropped and the buzz, I remember blacker the berry dropping and the wild title and tracklist theories on forums about what tpab will be about and how it became an all time great album the moment it dropped.

CB, tyga, Thug had the clubs going crazy.

Such a pivotal year for me and my love of rap.

    This s*** almost depressing

Like the path that we was going on after 2015 if XXL2016 doesnt happen seems like an alternate universe now lmao

I get what you mean and I subtly noticed it too. He didn’t have a actual gang behind him despite him being from there which plays a huuuge part in a lot of the subtle aspects of making it big with that lane of rap.

Dude said “my top 5 is Jay, Nas, Pac, Big and Montana of 300” and I nearly spit out my drink

You're right man and that's only rap lol

    In general you had

    Kamasi Washington - The Epic
    Tame Impala - Currents
    The Internet - Ego Death
    The Weeknd - BBTM
    Lupe Fiasco - T&Y
Hiatus Kaiyote - Choose Your Weapon
    Mac Demarco - Another One

Pretty sure Bjork dropped a record

I just remember having a crazy playlist

I just feel really lucky to have been in my late teens/early adulthood during the late 00s, early to mid 10s era tbh.
Being on the blogs & KTT, having amazing music such as Kenny, Drake, Ye, Cole, Abel, etc. coming out and being discussed on forums such as KTT, all the listening parties, the expectations for each album, etc.
Or even smaller artists that are mentioned ITT, like Vince or Brockhampton or Amine, etc.
Can't imagine being a 15 year old nowadays, doom scrolling and listening to Yeat or some s*** like Ian, man. The fall off of the culture is real.

  • Aquilla

Takes me back. I was in the end of middle school at that time

I was outside when all that dropped. New York City was so lit when those albums came out I was going to rooftop parties and s*** gettin trashed during that era lmaoo
