I blame rappers like Lil Uzi and Lil Pump or X who have said they're not rappers but just use the culture for themselves. These new school rappers take what they want from hip-hop and then credit it to a predominantly "white" genre like rock (actually a black founded genre) or emo (also a trend coming from black roots) it's all part of the whitewashing centuries in the making. Rap is next on the hit list
that is not entirely true. black originated music was a huge, integral part of the formation of rock and roll, but it actually has influences from many cultures, not just one
Contributions came from America's black population, with an ancient heritage of oral storytelling through music of African origin, usually with strong rhythmic elements, with frequent use of "blue notes" and often using a "call and response" vocal pattern. African music was modified through the experience of slavery, and through contact with white musical styles such as the folk ballad, and instruments, such as the Spanish guitar.
wait delete this because you'd lowkey be contradicting yourself. that's the whole point being made. if rapping is an art, then why can't they refer to themselves as artists
No referring to yourself as a rapper is already implied as being an artist
Separating the 2 means you think rappers and artists aren't one in the same
not all these dudes artists
i end up feeling a little snobbish when people who don't play instruments call themselves musicians cause it sounds good its like what u be playing
OP is the antithesis of "You're not that guy, pal". He IS that guy. Quite a turnaround from the reception he received on his previous account. Rebrand successful.
please stfu and don't ruin peaceful harmony for us
thank u
idk if we are listening to the same radio then lol. in order for it to go 3x platinum it needed to be played everywhere, and it was
if a radio station is playing adele and taylor swift, best believe beyoncé is in regular rotation as well
she’s pretty much the biggest female pop star if we are talking spanning decades. all races love her
You are purely being speculative saying things have to be a certain way because you think they do. You don’t need every radio station to play you in order to go platinum, you can get that being played regularly on the black stations.
if you make a list of the 10 singles Adele, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé released last decade it’s very easy to find that the ones from the white artists get played on white pop stations and Beyoncé doesn’t. Beyoncé and Drake do not get white pop radio play. Mariah Carey had songs she couldn’t have rappers on because the radio stations would tell her that they would not play rap.
What color are they wearing
I rest my case
"I am a rapper" = I am an artist
Is different than "I'm not a rapper I'm an artist" (making a correction)
not all these dudes artists
if you sat at your laptop and opened up garage band and laid some vocals and a track, you were an artist for the day. you created something.
no, they just insecure bout that s***
u can call urself an artist or whatever, they still treat us like a nword
actually pathetic to give in to that mentality if u'd ask me
these rappers are in a culture (hip hop) that made the nword a "term of endearment" and y'all defending them now acting like being called rapper is bad???????? s*** is funny asl if u think about it
just my 2 cents tho
yeah i like when people are proud of rapping ability and being a rapper itself unashamedly that s***s fire
What’s the difference between an artist and a rapper or singer
hint: nothing!
I would say “R&B” does that more because it goes into the deeply racist history of why “pop music” was created to sell black music to non-black people. Usher is R&B but Timberlake is pop

@giorno_giovanna stealing my posts
It’s not their fault entirely it’s the stigma society had placed on the term
F*** them crackers
Rap is art and there is nothing to be ashamed of in being a rapper
Bro cmon I love X but he got y’all fooled with those 2 minute iPhone recordings over a guitar beat
Oh I literally said I wasn't familiar man I wasn't a fan. I thought he was doing some different s***
@giorno_giovanna stealing my posts
my bad i wws just trying to reinforce that point since we were already talking, my fault
my bad i wws just trying to reinforce that point since we were already talking, my fault
I’m kidding
It’s not that serious
It’s not their fault entirely it’s the stigma society had placed on the term
Jesus, what “stigma”?
No referring to yourself as a rapper is already implied as being an artist
Separating the 2 means you think rappers and artists aren't one in the same
No, I believe that's what YOU (and others) draw from those individuals separating the two. Those are the presumptions you're putting onto those people. I still haven't received a strong enough example of a rapper stating the contrary:
You are purely being speculative saying things have to be a certain way because you think they do. You don’t need every radio station to play you in order to go platinum, you can get that being played regularly on the black stations.
if you make a list of the 10 singles Adele, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé released last decade it’s very easy to find that the ones from the white artists get played on white pop stations and Beyoncé doesn’t. Beyoncé and Drake do not get white pop radio play. Mariah Carey had songs she couldn’t have rappers on because the radio stations would tell her that they would not play rap.
then we are both being speculative because you are doing the same thing as me but from an opposite point of view
i don’t know if drake is the best example here, considering he’s one of the biggest musical acts in the world and most certainly has play everywhere
as far as mariah carey goes, i don’t know about that because i never heard that before, but i wouldn’t say i’d be surprised if she was told that, because back when she was really popping rap was definitely looked down on by executives / pop radio.
my whole point is in todays day and age, there is a not a world where beyoncé isn’t bigger than adele or taylor swift on pop radio
just wait until she drops another album. adele and taylor have recent releases so of course they are being played more
also what people don’t take into account is radio budget. maybe beyoncé / her team doesn’t bother to pay predominately white pop radio stations like her counter parts do. it’s not like the stations aren’t choosing her. her label has to pay to be there (with bigger stations)
i feel like the hate on the rap art form got internalized by people who rap and now its just leading to this thread
No, a lot of these people who are saying this are in a generation that grew up close to cultures that didn’t respect rap and they feel insecure about that
