I think this is my point throughout this whole thread. All of these people mentioned are recording ARTISTS. their style of music can be rap or whatever else, but at the end of the day they're artists.

You can't lie though, people put you in a box once you're labelled as a "rapper". Like if you want to venture into other genres and s***, people aren't going to be as receptive to it because they already see you as a rapper. Tyler said on the Cherry Bomb documentary, he wants to make Stevie Wonder type music because he feels it's more timeless. He makes IGOR years later and he gets the Best Rap Album Grammy
I think it's to avoid how the world sees them rather than any shade or disrespect towards rap as a genre. Kanye said the same thing, people use it as a label to disrespect him
That's literally all this is. It's not because the rappers themselves don't see rap as an art form. It's to avoid being boxed and labelled by other people.
