You lowkey contributing to undermining rap as an artform by describing it as "talking over a beat" and it shouldn't be surprising that people don't want their work to have that label when they do so much more

What’s funny about this to me is how they don’t want to be called a rapper so that their music isn’t pigeonholed but they’ll still do everything stereotypically that rappers do outside of the booth

I really do get the arguments that were made in here about The Weeknd and twigs, and I want to say f*** it and agree because of course racism
but Positions is categorized as pop and it was promoted as her R&B album pretty much. whenever Justin says he's doing an R&B record (Journals, Changes/Justice) it's still set in the pop genre. Idk. I think that's just to keep the system as simple as possible. I can see why artists of any kind would feel slighted.
