and yet the govt focuses on banning mango juul pods and menthol cigs...

I'm actually in favor of the menthol ban tbh. Menthol cigs are legitimately worse for your health, and the majority of teens start smoking with menthol cigarettes. I guarantee you teen smoking would be a much smaller issue if all they had to choose from was Reds and Camels.

But the juul ban s*** is dumb. Transparent move from old money tobacco lobbies trying to push new, better alternatives out of their market

So they're lying about the possibility of people getting fired for being overweight or what?

No, NY is a state without these protections - however I don't think the solution is to specifically focus on protections for obesity. like shouldn't the solution just be to adopt the universal workers' rights clauses? ofc thats nowhere in the conversation and we all know why

Cause you can still be functional while smoking

    Exactly

Arguably healthier for you than being fat tbh

it's already not legal to do that depending on the state, but in other states this falls under actual universal worker protections against arbitrary firing or fair hiring practices rather than specifying obesity as a protected class

Yeah i was about to ask...isnt this already illegal in a lot of places? If its not illegal, surely you can sue for being fired without cause if you worked for pretty much any moderately sized company

No kid is getting cancer from someone smoking on the street lol those are all studies done on kids locked in the house with 3 people chain smoking inside all day

And we’re not cosplaying anything. We just want to smoke. All we’re asking for is to be left alone

Bro I work in cancer research. You are giving random people somatic mutations in their lungs. Why do you think you deserve the right to do that?

And don’t give me some what about X answer

that was more of a joke tbh but i agree the juul ban was idiotic especially since the real issue was actually bootleg disposables which they did nothing about. even for actual kids/underage smokers, the issue has always been access to disposables, not juuls

    Agreed

  • im against bullying but lets properly advocate for obese citizens to lose weight, and the only real outcome that seems to have an impact is bullying

  • I could understand how obesity happens to people and why it would be unfair to fat shame. Some people simply do not have access to be well educated on what it is they are consuming wether it be due to lack of time or lack of resources. As a result, they consume the cheapest things which tend to be the sugary, fatty foods. Compound that with having no time (working a lot, family, sedentary lifestyle post work) I could see how it would be unfair to judge someone who simply can’t make it to the gym or read about nutrition.

Good luck to lawmakers in this era, so much s***
