I didn’t say it didn’t matter, I said you’re putting too much stock in it. Nas legacy is greater than Wayne’s, Wayne’s legacy is actually kind of fading at this point, despite how influential he was, most of his music isn’t available to the masses and will be forgotten if they don’t get them on streaming soon.
The music that defined his legacy is available on streams. Carter III. Even if I remove mainstream success (I assume you mean sales), I can still present the same question.
It really feels like at this point his legacy has been surpassed. Wayne and Drake have better legacies at this point. Kendrick will more than likely at some point. Remove Kanye from the equation but if you include him that's another rapper.
Which rapper out of this list does he really have a better case than?
Hov
Pac
Big
Wayne
Drake
Em
Kanye
Yes and he's flat out better than Wayne who was never good lol, eminem who has sucked for 20 years now, kanye who rapped well on like 1 album and drake
Nas def got a case over Drake, Em and Big. Illmatic is better than anything these artists have done except arguably Ready to Die.
With that said, I'd take Ye, DOOM, Andre 3K, Jay, and Pac over him.
That's subjective. But if we are talking about album's greatness, Ready to Die and MMLP are just as great as Illmatic.
MFDoom has no case for top 25 let alone top 5

You are smoking crack if you think C3 touches Illmatic or IWW

MMLP
Bro, the subject matter on that album is embarrassing. You don’t know s*** about rap if you think a horrorcore album is on level with the most important lyrical album of all time
That's subjective. But if we are talking about album's greatness, Ready to Die and MMLP are just as great as Illmatic.

MF DOOM definitely has a case for top 25. Please stop

DOOM is single handedly the biggest influence on underground and internet rap so nah, he definitely has a case
Mans influence literally extends beyond the internet rappers like danny brown or earl/odd future all the way to carti or drake

In terms of quality, no. Drought 3 does. CII is debatable. In terms of greatness, IWW isn't that great. It did nothing for rap. IWW had to be revisited for the culture to accept its quality and even then it didn't do anything for rap. Just a fantastic album. CIII is on par with Illmatic in terms of greatness
OP saying em has a better case than nas is wild asf
he really believes that stupid s***. Em has mid for two decades now
em and ye top 5 contenders? ion think so
greatness has to deal with their legacy and impact.
Em and Ye legacies are huge and transcend hiphop.

the underground and internet isn't that big. Established rappers in the culture>underground. I can name 25 rappers more influential.

Nigga what iww did nothing for rap ?
I'm blocking @op he just said IWW wasn't that good
Yall keep talking about discography like that means s***. That's your OPINION. I can sit here and say nas has been mediocre since Stillmatic, but that isn't the discussion here.

You should block me. You can't read.

underground and internet rap is pretty huge though. I mean its given birth to the soundcloud era, soulja boy, lil b and odd future and so many other huge moments. DOOM was a trendsetter in so many ways. You def cant name 25 more influential rappers.
