hey can you recommend some good short story writers and essayists, i have decided to read a book for once and i want some that would keep me interested !

i mostly like bleak,dark, political and funny stories.
the types of stories told by KA,billy and earl.

im just starting to read and there for dont know much about my own taste in reading still figuring out

I feel you man. You might like some short stories from Thomas Hardy, Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, or David Foster Wallace. You can’t go wrong with anything from them.

And if I remember didn’t you make a list of books woods mentions?? That might be a good start too.

Yeah i did make a list of the authors he likes, his fav book is blood meridian.
So i tried reading it and boy oh boy was it a hard to understand it was like mach lyrics dense and cryptic but every other line had a word i didnt know.

So i thought i shouldn't start with such dense authors and rather try recs from people who have already read something

For fiction, I feel like White Noise or Mao II by Don DeLillo could be up your alley if you enjoy mach/billy woods rap

For nonfiction, “Chaos” is a must read, peak conspiracy writing IMO and it’s not only recent, it’s all true

Also it’s pretty unorthodox at the start but stick with Blood Meridian and you’ll get a lot out of it. The flowery language is at odds with the base, primal violence committed by the cowboys and imo alienates the reader in the same way that the world the scalpers inhibit is alien to them

It’s like 20 bucks on Amazon, worth every penny- I have little to no interest in the Manson trial and still found what it uncovers to be insanely interesting (things like the CIA controlling the national mental health association in the 60s, hippies being a manufactured counterculture, govt testing new forms of d**** on the rich/poor)
