one thing that has worked well for me is supersetting a heavy, free weight exercise with a resistance band until failure set immediately following it
for example, if I'm hitting chest, I'll do something like a barbell bench press for reps (when I'm going heavy, I am for 6-8 reps to really get a good pump). I'll immediately after put the resistance band below me and bench press just that until I fail
Everyone is different obviously, but this has really helped me to maintain my athleticism and explosiveness as i've gained muscle over the year, vs. just being big and bulky
