The only Ys game I've played was Ys 8. Was a pretty fun game, and not super long. Think it took me like 35 hours or so; did just about all the side quests & got the "true" ending. Dunno if I'll play any of the older ones since they seem kinda dated and don't have a huge interest in it.

F***ing with 3rd heavily rn too; taking me a lot longer since I'm playing on hard which really just means I'm taking 3x as long thinking about Orbment setups but I'm f***ing with the whole dungeon aspect of this game; feels like some SMT s***

I haven't seen much of the story yet since I'm still very early in (just finished 3rd plane) but I do like the small glimpses into Kevins backstory I have seen so far and his interactions with Ries Just got to the part where Ries leaves the party cause she thinks Kevin isnt being real with himself

Who're you using in your party? I really loved that you progressively pick up more and more characters. The conversations/dialogue they have in the the hub area are really solid too. Though it's kinda annoying because there's so many good characters, and you only have 4 spots in the party lmao. Love these characters too much man

Also, some of the S-Crafts you see are INSANE. Vander's S-Craft in particular had me dead. Some Safer Sephiroth Supernova type s\*\*\*

All I know is Kevin's S-Craft is probably gonna be your best friend on hard

Previously, I mainly used Tita cause her cannon is AoE damage and she actually hits pretty hard + her craft is just busted since it heals 3.5k hp and gets rid of all debuffs.

Julias craft gives 10% speed and 20% damage to the whole party so that was also pretty busted during the very early floors when you didnt have Clock Up EX. But shes getting benched now since those stat up buffs are weak rn.

Then theres Joshua and Mueller, Mueller does crazy damage but has 4 Orbment lines which is pretty garbage if you want to use arts. Joshua is pretty balanced; though he isnt as busted as he was in SC lmao

Kloe is MVP healer, she only has 1 line which is good and her ATS is pretty good too.

Only just unlocked Olivier but hes probably gonna be a lock for the majority of the game since he has 1 Orbment line and good stats

Josette is completely f***ing useless lmao

Zin is strong too but I never really used him since he has 4 lines

Basically I'm rocking with Kevin/Reis/Kloe/Olivier right now (replace Reis with Joshua since she just left the party though). If a boss gives out debuffs tho im probably gonna need to switch out Kloe with Tita

Kevins S-Craft is indeed busted too lmao, his craft also good since it gives other people CP. I think the best strat right now is too use Clock Down + Clock Up EX and Earth Wall heavily.

I honestly might consider playing Zero on Nightmare depending on how this playthrough goes

There's two characters in particular that are incredibly busted, but I think you've got a bit of time before you run into them. Insta slotted them onto my team

But yeah, with these games, it's best to maximize speed/delay enemies and you can just win. I know in CS1/CS2, you can just toss on a bunch of delay quartz on the MC and spam one of his crafts and you just delay enemies so far back they don't get any turns lol. Trying to figure out what I'm gonna do with these ones since I don't wanna run a delay build for 4 games in a row

You can trivialize a lot of stuff in Azure by building Lloyd as an evasion tank. I legit dodged every single attack on one of the final bosses with Lloyd being the only one alive. I think I read that it's definitely one of the better strats to run on Nightmare. Though I do remember the beginning of Zero being unfairly difficult at one point early. Dunno how you're supposed to beat that boss on Nightmare lol.

Think I read in terms of difficulty it goes Sky arc > Crossbell arc > Cold Steel arc, with Sky being the most difficult. I'm sure if you can deal with Hard in Sky, you'll be good for the rest of the series.

I heard the same things about difficulty lol. With Sky FC/SC being just damn right an actual nightmare on nightmare difficulty since Nightmare was just a thing that was added unto the game and it wasn't balanced around it. And Sky the 3rd and the Crossbell games actually being pretty balanced on Nightmare and a good experience.

I heard about Lloyd as an evasion tank being a good option; looking forward to it since I havent got much use out of the AGL stat in this game yet I feel like.

Looking forward to playing Zero; though im seeing hella drama on my Twitter feed lately over translation errors on the official release; the really hardcore fans of this game are mad asf at NISA rn

It's pretty satisfying dodging everything and countering over and over. Both the Crossbell games have some crazy exploitable tactics. With Zero, Elie has a craft that heals HP & CP for anyone in its range (which she also receives the effects of), so you can easily recover CP and just destroy everything with everyone else's crafts.

Zero is great man. Crossbell was definitely the arc I was looking forward to the most, and it more than f***ing delivered I kinda get the uproar over the translation since it was legitimately already done by the group they hired. Def not a good look for NISA, but it's just kinda whatever to me. From what I've seen on Twitter, it's been a handful of random lines of dialogue being in Japanese lmao.

Though I'm glad they kept these

But my favourite thing out of this chapter so far has go to be the Olivert backstory. This s\*\*\* was f\*\*\*ing insane. First of all the re-introduction of Lechter. I knew there was more to this guy during the Klaudia backstory but I was not expecting him to the be secretary to the Chancellor; this guy is just too mysterious, even more surprising was the chancellor actually showing up; this guy is menacing asf.

These scenes with Olivert and the Chancellor were tense asf too; hard to believe that it seems like someone got one over Olivert. But then came the ending scene with Olivert reminding me why hes my favourite character; this nigga is cool as s\*\*\*

There is just so much to get excited about with these games (and that Olivier/Osborne door in particular sets off everything; Olivier cemented as a SSS tier character with that door as well). Door 15 is also one you do NOT wanna miss. iirc you need to have watched the other 14 star doors. Have you been doing the Sun (mini game) doors at all?

Also Renne is one of the two busted characters I was talking about in 3rd lol.

I *knew* something was up with Lechter and was really looking forward to seeing what his deal was. Very happy more of him was shown in that Olivier door because I did not wanna wait after seeing he dipped out of the academy lmao.

I am actually so happy I decided to start playing again from FC. I genuinely cannot imagine these games hitting nearly as hard as they do if I started playing with CS1 like I was gonna end up doing until one of my friends started playing FC lol.
