So I got a i9-9900k with a 3090 but my mobo is old as s***

Will a ryzen 9 5900x and a much better mobo a good replacement? I already have it but been lazy to replace it becuz i had problems before building my pc

is the mobo you currently have compatible with the 9900k

if so i'd just roll with that until like zen 6 or something, unless you stream or need the extra cores. if so then yeah sell the 9900k and pick up a B550/X570 for the 5900x. or go B450 with good VRMs like a tomahawk.

My current one is some gigabyte ud, its very basic because they stopped making the lga 1151 mobos lol only reason i was thinking tk upgrade

if you sell the 9900k and the mobo you can probably get about $400-450 (off the top of my head, could be wrong tbh) for that, and break even on a 5900x if it's on sale

I already have the mobo and 5900x just a pain to instal

And yeh id get $500-600 cad easy selling the 9900k and mobo

the eventual plan was to run a plex/jellyfin server on it, think a baby mobo can handle that? Will just be for 1-2 users

yeah it should be able to handle it no issues.

the asrock board only has 4 sata ports though so it might be worth considering another itx board if you need more, but otherwise that's the cheapest b550 out there i believe.
