MJ was only really that huge from 1983-1988. He lost America in the early 90s.

Taylor been at it since 2014

  • Not happening.

Not even because of a talent thing per say, but just because the way a pop star exists and functions in 2024 is so much different than 40 years ago.

No one is going to have that same mystique and larger than life aura across cultures and demographics like Michael at his peak. I’m not saying that to diminish her or s*** on her, because she’s about as big as you can be in today’s world.

But people, at large, don’t romanticize icons in the same way anymore.

She definitely makes the best music out of the 3

  • DicherdownDAVE9

Like what basic f***ing s*** is this

“I went to starbucks i had a cold brew, thats when i laid eyes on you”

    S*** ABC music

    CRINE

  • DicherdownDAVE9

she isn’t going to recapture the same hold that MJ and The Beatles had in their respective times, i don’t think people get that they kinda were huge cultural figures outside of the records and the numbers, and obviously massively influential

Taylor is obviously large, but i wouldn’t say she’s anywhere near as influential or outright groundbreaking like MJ or The Beatles were

idk she's pretty huge rn n it's not just her music

  • Feb 26, 2024

Set off the American socialist revolution

She'd be one of the founding mothers of the new country

And essentially ascend to an even more God like status in the history books

  • She doesn't have the crossover appeal of those other artists but she is huge

  • fun guy

few have done it like her

    Adriana

When she wore them cheetah print boots in that one episode

I mean you ain't wrong, that was his peak of popularity. None of his albums after Bad had that level of impact

trust me, I read like 30 articles about MJs rise and fall in the States. You're just ignorant and uninformed.

Losing America = breaking Super Bowl records, 500m viewers on a short film, the hype around Dangerous and to this day the most viewed interview in TV history

MJs “decline” in America began when History came out, still the biggest double disc ever and broke chart records but the promotion/sales were stronger in Europe (partly due to Sonys promotion of them, e.g cases where the singles weren’t even sent to radio in America)

and Dangerous spent how long at Nr 1 on the charts?

There was a new wave that was much more organically popular than him in the 90s (Grunge). At that point MJ was kinda forced onto the public consciousness. 1983 he was the zeitgeist.

  • Legitimately she only needs time. The older her hardcore fans get the more her legacy will be built.

Grunge wasnt the only new wave at that time and it became universally loved retroactively. New Jack Swing and Boy/Girl Bands were going hard in the 90s too, which was a pocket fit for MJ. Not to mention the 90s were a very hospitable climate for late career/legacy acts

I don’t even care about Taylor but this site is so delusional when it comes to her

This hoe just grossed 1 billion with the FIRST LEG of her tour

Just accept she’s very popular. And no, not just with “white girls” – this is a very US centric take, the rest of the world doesn’t function like this

This is a very US-centric take, cus if you think Taylor Swift has any kind of straight male audience in Asia, Africa or Europe you’re entirely mistaken

No, the idea that only white people like her, that she only appeals to white people, etc

This also applies to other singers

so what are you trying to say?

That your perspective of the 90s is skewed and MJ had crazy juice the first half of the decade prior to the allegations

yup, streaming has changed everything and you can't really easily compare the scope of influence or success of artists now with artists pre-streaming, especially artists from the 60s or 80s

if she had a piece of paper that said "you are bigger than MJ and the beatles" that would probably do it
