Obviously “colorism” does exist. But you reallly can’t compare two careers and attribute their respective levels of success to one being lighter than the other. It may be true but impossible to prove so why even go there? I love Keke Palmer. She beautiful, talented and I feel like on screen she’s remains true to her and her people. That’s super attractive to and I’ll support all her work because of it. I can say the same about Zendaya but she seems more Hollywood, and chooses roles I’m not always interested in watching.

Zendaya 3 years younger but look 10 years younger

That’s a contributing factor to consider

  • Jul 24, 2022

Kinda reductive, because there's many factors that contribute to a more "popular" trajectory. No need to compare solely because one's lighter than the other.

  • I have a problem with how this is worded as if it only boils down to one reason, as if that's all there is to it.

One thing about Zendaya is that she was on a couple of Disney shows so maybe younger Gen Z feel more closer to her for that

as if them both being child stars is the only factor to consider

other people itt already pointed that out though so I'm now making this a h**** post

Keke and Zendaya are two of the finest mfs to ever walk this earth and i'd sever my left arm just to be reborn as their bedroom door handles

Keke was a Nickelodeon child star. Which is where I think the comparison may be coming from

she just had lots of success with kids and teens bc of the Disney Machine continually casting her and refusing to let her go for a long time, even to this day putting her in Spiderman films. an audience who grows up with you is usually more loyal and keeps following what you do.

Keke Palmer was a child actress who was also in stuff made for older audiences. so its easier for them to not attach to her the same

The language of oppression applied to millionaires. Classic

Zendaya has been in multiple billion dollar movies. Of course she's famous.

Zendaya was in blockbusters from the jump because of her Disney ties. Keke started out in alot of urban, niche movies and never had a chance tobdo TV like that. I'd say that Keke at some point in her career was bigger then Zendaya because she was out there longer.

Honestly, this comparison makes 0 sense and its just made to start trouble. Audiences usually choose with their eyes and wallets, alot of black people knew of Keke Palmer longer then Zendaya Zendaya was the lead in a childrens show and blew from there. Stop the bs

Oh yea lol,i kinda remember that

  • I mean it's likely but Keke Palmer has definitely been very successful throughout her career. The shows and movies she was in just appealed more to Black people/families while Zendaya came up a Disney star. She was probably always gonna end up being bigger than Keke off that more than her being lightskin.

Yes her being lightskin does give her an advantage in Hollywood cause it's a racist/colorist industry the entertainment world is. But to say that Keke Palmer "Isn't as big as Zendaya" because of colorism is kinda misleading. It also does lowkey diminish her success as an actress. Keke Palmer a Black All-Star in my book and she been at it since she was like 10-12 years old. She got Nickleodeon checks, Disney/ABC checks, UPN checks, Tyler Perry/Madea checks, Broadway checks. Her resume is very impressive and very respectable.

Nah honestly shoutout Keke Palmer on god cause she's always been up to star in Black centric shows and movies. I don't think she really gets her credit enough for that. She was/is a role model for a lotta Black girls growing up, especially darkskin girls. That s*** means everything.

  • Jul 24, 2022

BS. Zendaya been in bigger stuff. Keke is still really popular regardless.

The tweet in OP literally comes to the conclusion that its colorism, while asking someone else to do the research for them? How does that work?

Colorism probably played a factor in the type of roles each of them were able to acquire but I'll just speak on the "breakout role" comment. Keke has definitely had a very successful career but the truth is most of the movies she's done were only popular amongst black people. Most black kids growing up in the early 2000s remember Akeelah and remember Madea's Family Reunion. These films were extremely popular in BLACK culture. Zendaya has been a mainstream talent since she started her career. I don't think she's ever been in a film or tv show that was watched by a majority black audience. That's the difference to me.
