Bro. Most minorities don’t consider Asians actual minorities because they’re just as successful as whites.

It would go against their victim mentality to acknowledge Asians as a minority group.

i think the term exists to highlight recent history (of the “west”) as boiling down to white people colonizing/exploiting non-white people

hence the binary of whites and people of color

like other posters said it gets muddy when supposed people of color hold positions of privilege today, but i think it’s important to make the distinction since a lot of things really do just run skin-deep

i’m also kind of skeptical of people trying to lump all minorities together as if our experiences are a***ogous to each other, but i guess it’s in pursuit of solidarity (which sounds good on paper but is hard to actually achieve)

Even then you can’t even begin to compare anything to the colonization of Africa. They literally colonized and exploited our entire f***ing continent. And it wasn’t even a long time ago my country has only been independent for about 60 years.

what the f*** are you talking about, just knowing how overpopulated asian countries are and the state of some of those largest ones i can PROMISE you they are not “just as successful as whites”

if you are talking strictly US, the claim is almost just as outlandish bc asian immigrants are FAR more likely to have come over AFTER black “immigrants” (aka former slaves) AFTER their respective country had experienced a degree of education or industry thereby putting them already at an “advantage” - this is such a weird dishonest take, weirdo “model minority” s***

Also the reason Asian's are as successful as whites in the US has a lot more to do with values and culture than with the timing of immigration. Same reason why Indians, African's, and Arabs also do well after immigrating.

there’s really no objective way to reconcile whose group had it worse

native americans got genocided and betrayed at every turn for centuries

vietnamese/cambodian/laotian got bombed, agent oranged, and still deal with undetonated bombs/mines

chinese/japanese were brought to hawaii/mainland to do menial backbreaking labor for pennies and then were kicked out once the railroads were finished

and yes, africa was raped, enslaved, and exploited

thing is, if you talked to people from any of these other groups who underwent these experiences, how willing do you think they’d be to just shrug off their hardship and admit that Blacks had it worse

or we could just keep playing oppression olympics like crabs in a bucket

I argued that when people say to support minority business they aren't talking about Asian businesses or companies because they are rarely considered to be on the same level as other minorities (by other minorities).

In America minority has become synonymous with "struggling". Minorities are pretty much Latino and Black American's exclusively.

Ok then let’s just all agree that we’re different and stop using terms like “people of color”. It makes it even more confusing when people talk about “The struggles of people of color” because that is basically just “Modern human history except European history”.
