Avg rent, high income tax, food, and going out occasionally, you’re probably saving 500-1k per month on 100k salary. You’re not going to be able to ever afford a house

American mentality is exceptional in that.

Ideally it should be a cap on how much wealth one could earn. The existence of multi billionaires while ppl are starving should make the human conscience angry. The inevitable slew of replies disputing this will just prove my point

Shout out the Dodge Brothers who sued Henry Ford when he tried to tie wages to consumer price and ensure that each of his workers could afford to buy what they made

    I'm crying

    New KTT hot take:

    $100k isn't a livable salary!

100k is like 50-60k in some cities essentially. It sounds good if you don’t think about student loan debt, credit card debt, car note, groceries, etc. majority of people, our reality is that many people don’t climb their way to 100k+ income debt free.

As a single person yes you’re doing alright, try raising a family off of that, you’re literally living paycheck to paycheck still.

It’s like $1500 just to live in a studio nowadays. Ain’t no level of financial literacy justifying these rising prices. You cannot save your way out of poverty.

50 an hour is enough idc where you live even in NYC you can easily make it

If you’re complaining about making that much you sound privileged as hell, people struggling making much less and still surviving

I literally made that in nyc for a year and it’s definitely livable for a single person If you bite the bullet and live far out in Brooklyn, BX, or Queens to get a 1 bed for 1800 or so

You can afford 2000-2300 rent on that salary tho honestly.

Disclaimer: I moved to Texas for the same salary

    throwawayokay

if $50 isn’t livable you’re just financially irresponsible

  • Feb 6, 2024

I was at 68k when I first started living on my own in NYC and made it work while being a financially irresponsible idiot but the fact I could be one and not starve says enough

  • Feb 6, 2024

There are probably less than ten cities in the entire US were a single person can’t live alone on 100k

Depends on what u value. For example if u love going to concerts then you'll be missing out on a lot of acts cause not many are gonna do the small town circuit
