I'm only 6 hours into my first playthrough of P4G and I got a question about social links. Can you only upgrade social links as specific times? On like April 22nd (idk if that was the actual date or not) I met Chie at the northern part of the shopping district in the evening, talked to her and upgraded our social link to level 1. It's currently April 26th and the IGN wiki says she should be on the roof after school, but she's not. She's just sitting in class and when I talk to her she asks about saving Yukiko. Does a certain amount of time need to pass before I can upgrade our social link further? And she should have been on the roof, had I not met her in the shopping district?

low-key that fight wasn't even that hard. but I had all lvl99 demons so I guess that's not fair to say.
I don't even know where to start with how I feel about this game lol
essentially, for as long as it took me (250 hours!!!!!!), this game was amazing. obviously I still have things I didn't like about the game (not a lot of voiced content, hardly any new s link events, like 5 new personas, way too f***ing long), but the good parts were just so good. I kind of remembered why I got into persona. like on the last day they play this crazy ass music in the palace and from then on all I could feel was straight chills.

  • Jun 24, 2020

i think having a short persona game wouldn't hit the same but I wish they packed in more events. by like 1/20, I already maxed out kasumi and the rest of the time was so boring. every s link only has like 3 events after finishing. that means they could've easily added in like 2 weeks g/t worth of extra time to spend with confidants or even just a third new confidant. they could've done better, definitely, but this is still an amazing game. worth $60 for all the time u can clock in easily

  • Jun 24, 2020

now I jus gotta figure out who to spend Valentine's with....
I think I'm gonna do chihaya or Takemi

I'm pretty sure you have to rescue Yukiko first. Also it should tell you what days your social links are available on in the menu.

Ah, ok. Imma save her tonight and see what happens. I haven't seen anywhere in the menu that tells me that but I'll check again later.

It’s mainly bc of the way they intentionally throttle your progression, but the first one made it very very difficult to achieve something like this. R was supposed to be on the other end of that spectrum

Finally got the true ending for P4G

Excellent game aside from Marie. F*** Marie.

The golden ending - and more Marie content - took that game to a 10/10 for me personally

Port Persona 3 to PC with being able to control your party members and the tiredness system being gone and it’s an instant buy for me since I dropped playing it on the PS3.
That tiredness system just wore me out, the game is too much of a grind.

Thinking of buying Persona 4 on PC and replaying it. Probably will at some point considering Persona 4 is a top 5 game ever to me.

Yeah you should’ve got something to play P3P lol. If those are your only two issues, that port would’ve been perfect for you

I find the Kamoshida arc to be the strongest section of Persona 5's story. Every member of the group (sans Morgana) has a deeply personal motivation to go after Kamoshida, and the player is made to really despise him as an antagonist.

These elements are present in all of the following story arcs, just to a lesser degree. To be fair, it would be pretty difficult to give every individual Phantom Thief a personal conflict with every individual antagonist (especially as the cast grows), so I’m not knocking it.

THat's an argument I havent heard put exactly how you put it, but kinda vocalized before, and that's perhaps why I dont ever put P5 over P4. P4 literally designed their dungeons to give every character maximized development, for a good chunk of time

I havent gotten far in P5R at all, but Haru is literally a side show in the OG game and after his initial palace, Yusuke is basically a Futaba quip counter. Takamaki takes a significant backseat once you get Makoto in (everyone does though).

IDK if 5R remedies that, but with having to make Kasumi and Akechi feel just as important, I imagine it doesnt

I never really understood this take tbh.

All of them have pretty pivotal moments where they show how vital they are to the thieves. For example each of them flex their muscles in Shido's ship and in the Third semester as well.

Even beyond that, there's more to a character than plot relevance

If you removed Ann from the group for example you would miss that strong sense of empathy and voice of reason which would ultimately lead to group discussions not flowing as naturally and the Theives by extent would seem more distant. Her consideration of the feelings of her friends and the people they're trying to save adds a human touch to group deliberations that you wouldn't get if you only had Makoto expositing every time.

In different ways this exact thing applies to Yusuke, Ryuji, and yes, even Haru.

Also worth noting: Everyone in P4's party other than Naoto is wholly irrelevant after their respective dungeons when it comes to "advancing the plot". Yet the Investigation Team is one of the strongest casts in any game. This is because rather than focusing on how to make each member as relevant and dynamic as possible, they introduce characters to strengthen the sense of unity that the team has.

When Rise and Kanji have a side conversation about Animal Crackers, they aren't actively advancing anything. Yet it contributes greatly to the group dynamic and serves to strengthen the player's emotional connection to the cast, as well as making the party seem more grounded and natural.

I guess it depends on what is more memorable to you, a steady stream of good dialogue (I still stand by everyone's quality taking a step down after Makoto's introduction) or one omega-nut of great character building and then casual convo. As I remember, the dialogue between the investigation team was just as good as the phantom thieves, so you basically have both in their case

I finished P4G like 5-6 years ago so it may be nostalgia speaking and not empirical evidence, so keep that in mind

i thought the original ending was slightly better as it was more bittersweet while the new one is extremely happy. still a very good ending though

marie's new content and integration into the story isn't bad but her personality is so god awful before that point
